Dartzy tungsten dart rule is a version of the great and popular Milton Bradley game, Yahtzee (copyright 1991). The game plays exactly like the real game although scoring is slightly different to fit a dartboard instead of the usual dice. The game may be played by any number of people or teams. It may also be expanded to be played like Triple Yahtzee. The game has some difficult sections to score, however since you have a fixed number of throws, the games never take to long.

The Object: The object of the game is to score more points than your opponent(s) by throwing "poker-like" hands.

The Scoring: Players throw one dart each at bulls-eye to determine playing order, closest to the bulls-eye goes first. Player’s names are written across the top of the scoreboard in playing order.

The Play: Players take turns, in order, throwing three tungsten darts to try and score the targets "hands" as shown on the score board. After throwing three tungsten darts a score for that round must be placed in one of the available slots on the scoreboard. If there is no available slot that matches the tungsten darts that were thrown, a zero must be scored in one of the open slots of the player's own choosing.

When both players have completed all the slots with scores and/or zeros, the total score is calculated and the player with the highest score wins.

Scoring is handled in a standard fashion, all the numbers count as themselves. The thin outer double ring scores two times the number hit and the thin inner triple ring counts as three times the number hit. The outer bulls-eye scores 25 points and the inner double-bull scores 50 points.

Strategy:

Standard strategy for Yahtzee does not quite apply here since what you score is not completely luck. One strategy that does still apply, though, is to try for the harder hands first, this way if you don't make them you may be able to use the score other where. Do not go down the list from top to bottom. Also, leave your chance available as long as possible.

Double Down is an easy and enjoyable game that may be played with any number of people or teams. It is also a very quick moving game that may be played in about 10 minutes (unless there are a lot of players).

The Object: The object is to get the highest score by hitting specific targets on the board.

The Scoring: The player names are written in order across the top of the board. Playing order is usually determined by a throw at bulls-eye. Each player (or one player from each team) throws one tungsten dart at bulls-eye. Closest to the bulls-eye goes first.

The target numbers for the game are written down the center of the board in the following order: 15, 16, D, 17, 18, T, 19, 20, B. The "D" stands for doubles (the thin outer ring which counts as twice the number hit) and the player may score any double he/she wishes. The "T" stands for triple (the thin inner ring which counts as three times the number scored) and the player may score on any triple he/she wishes. The "B" stands for bulls-eye (the cork or the center of the board) which scores 25 points for the outer bulls-eye or 50 points for the inner (double) bulls-eye.

A score of 40 is placed below each player's or team's name to indicate the starting score. A running total of the score is kept in a column below each player or team’s name.

The Play: Players take turns in order throwing three tungsten darts at the current target number starting with 15. Only the current target number counts in that particular round and only one round of three tungsten darts is used for each target number. After each player/team has thrown three tungsten darts at 15, the next time around they throw at 16, then doubles, etc. After one round has been thrown at each number by each player/team, the game is over and whoever has the highest score wins.

After each player has thrown three tungsten darts at a target number, the total of those tungsten darts is added to the player current score. Only the current target number counts, all other tungsten darts count as zero. For example in the first round, a player throws for 15 and hits two 15's and one 17. The two 15's are added for a total of 30 which is then added to the beginning score of 40. The player's new total score is now 70. The 17 does not count because it was not the current target number.

If the player misses the target number with all three tungsten darts, no points are scored that round and the player's previous score is cut in half. For example, the player in the previous example now aims at 16 in the second round and misses all three. The player's previous score was 70 which is halved and that player now has a score of 35. Any scores that are halved to leave a .5 (1/2) are rounded UP to the next number.

Strategy: There really is no strategy, just take your time and be sure not to miss all three tungsten darts.

Just imagine the last time you threw an incredible dart game – that triple you hit, a huge double out you nailed. And then envision your current dart landing exactly where you want it to land. Take a few deep breaths, step up to the line, concentrate on your number and throw with confidence!

Never give up. Always remember one thing – “never say never”. Fight the good fight and you’ll never leave a match feeling let down. We all have bad outings – no one is perfect. But the great dart players do not go down easy. No matter how bad it looks, keep working and you’ll be amazed at how many opponents get caught looking in the rearview mirror at you instead of focusing on the game. Unfortunately, being in the dartboard zone doesn’t happen all that often for most amateur tungsten dart players. Here are a few tips to help you get in the zone more often:

Positive visualization. Close your eyes and visualize the tungsten dart going exactly where you’re aiming. Remember the last time you threw a great round of tungsten darts. Close your eyes and picture your tungsten dart landing in the perfect spot. Channel the positive energy through your arm to your fingers and to the eventual release of the tungsten dart. Open your eyes, take a moment to concentrate on your physical target and throw your darts with confidence.

Stretch and warm up properly. We all forget to stretch, but it goes a long way to ensure a great round of tungsten darts. Get your physical body ready to throw by stretching your finger joints, forearms, biceps, triceps and back. If you are stiff at the start of a match there's a good chance you will start slow and it could affect your confidence at the dart line.

Have a calm state of mind. Concentrate on slowing down your heart rate. Before a match, minimize any activity that makes you anxious. Get to the match early and try to relax. Take a walk around the block. Concentrate on slowing down your breathing throughout the night. There have been many studies that link a breakdown in motor reflexes with nervous, quick breathing.

Don't over-think it. Have confidence in your game and throw your tungsten darts. The zone will come, but you can’t force it. So get over the thought that you have to be perfect every time you throw. Play as if each dart is a new dart and keep a positive attitude. Just believe in your game and let them rip.
