Phosphotungstic Heteropoly Acid

Phosphotungstic heteropoly acid is a kind of heteropoly tungstate, is also called keggin type phosphotungstic or dodecaphosphotungstic acid. It is a kind of solid strong acid, can be used as catalyst in organic catalytic reaction. It has excellent catalytic property.

Characteristic of phosphotungstic heteropoly acid is high relative molecular weight, high degree of hydration, strong oxidation property in water solution, can be decomposed into tungstate in strong alkali solution. Anion is colorful and may generate colorful reagent.

Phosphotungstic heteropoly acid is light yellow crystalline or white powder. The difference in color is due to different crystalline water content. With more crystalline water, it is light yellow. Or it is white. It can be easily soluble in water, alcohol and ether. It has the biggest solubility in ether. So ether extraction method is more often used in lab to separate phosphotungstic heteropoly acid solution, it will react with strong acid such as concentrated hydro chloride to generate yellow emulsion matter.

Phosphotungstic heteropoly acid is mainly used for oil and organic chemical industry in the esterification reaction, dehydration / chemical reaction, oxidation reduction reaction, asymmetric catalytic reaction, isomerization reaction, cracking reaction, and open loop, condensation, addition and etherification reaction catalyst. In addition, it is also used as organic pigments in the production of precipitants, heat-resistant and moisture-resistant special pigments synthesis and chrome additives.
