Rare Earth Market - September 15, 2025

Rare earth market update on September 15, 2025

At the beginning of the week, the domestic rare earth market overall performed moderately, with a mix of bullish and bearish factors leading to slightly different price trends for mainstream light and heavy rare earths: praseodymium-neodymium prices showed a rebound after halting their decline, while dysprosium-terbium prices remained temporarily stable.

Among these, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide and praseodymium-neodymium metal increased by approximately 21,000 yuan per ton and 15,000 yuan per ton, respectively. Driven by the rising prices of praseodymium-neodymium raw materials, the prices of rare earth permanent magnet materials and their scrap also rose, with 52H neodymium-iron-boron blank blocks and neodymium-iron-boron scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) increasing by approximately 1 yuan per kilogram and 23 yuan per kilogram, respectively. It is understood that the significant price declines in praseodymium-neodymium over the past two weeks have, to some extent, stimulated downstream users’ willingness to purchase at lower prices, thereby driving product price recovery. In the previous two weeks, praseodymium-neodymium oxide prices decreased by approximately 7.67%, and praseodymium-neodymium metal prices decreased by approximately 6.93%.

In terms of news, according to the Qinghai Daily, the 6GWh rare earth lithium battery and PACK production project in Nancuan Industrial Park, Xining (National) Economic and Technological Development Zone, has successfully commenced, with a total investment of 2.38 billion yuan and a planned completion date of June 2026. The start of this project not only marks a critical step in the development zone’s layout within the lithium battery industry chain but also injects strong momentum into Qinghai Province’s efforts to achieve its "dual carbon" goals and promote green, low-carbon, high-quality development. Leveraging 32 independently developed patented technologies, the rare earth lithium batteries produced by this project feature industry-leading advantages such as ultra-low temperature (-55°C) charge-discharge capabilities, with products widely applicable in energy storage power supplies, data center backup power, and supporting systems for new energy vehicles.
