Tungsten scheelite is also called calcium tungstate ore. It is named by K.W.Scheele, a Sweden chemist who discovered tungsten. Tungsten scheelite is used for extracting tungsten. Tungsten scheelite appearance is like a rock, color is yellow and white.
Scheelite occurs in contact metamorphic skarns, in high-temperature hydrothermal veins and greisen, less commonly in granite pegmatites. Temperature and pressure of formation is between 200 and 500 °C and from 200 to 1,500 bars. Typical mineral association includes cassiterite, wolframite, topaz, fluorite, apatite, tourmaline, quartz, grossular–andradite, diopside, vesuvianite and tremolite. Tungsten scheelite accounts for two thirds of tungsten mine reserve in China. However they are of low grade which result in low economic efficiency. Until recent years, technology is improved with the beneficiation method being advanced.
Tungsten scheelite deposit is companied by sulfide scheelite, molybdenite is the mostly common seen. Flotation method is usually in the beneficiation method of tungsten scheelite. Firstly sulfide the tungsten scheelite to flotate, use sodium carbonate and water glass as adjusting agent to coarse flotate, then process precise selection. Tungsten scheelite is the mainly used ore to extract tungsten abroad, so there flotation method is more advance. After severals years of research and study, our beneficiation method is gradually promoted. Some new beneficiation methods such as Shizhuyuan Method is used to process tungsten scheelite. In the future, exploration of tungsten concentrate will be replaced by tungsten scheelite to achieve sustainable development.
