Compression Benefits of Bristle Dartboard

The compression of the sisal fibers in the bristle dart board make it self-healing, which means that when darts are removed from the board the fibers go back into place, leaving the dart board intact. A dart that strikes the board temporarily splits the fibers apart as opposed to pushing them inward or creating holes in the fibers themselves. These qualities also keep the dart in place after impact, ensuring proper scoring and a hassle-free game.

What is a Bristle Dartboard

When shopping for dartboards for a home, bar or even an office break room, it's important to understand all of the different options that are available. The bristle dartboard is the classic choice, but few individuals know what it really is, what it's made out of or why it's so beneficial. Learning about the bristle dartboard will help consumers make a sound purchasing decision, or may simply help individuals appreciate the equipment the next time they shoot a game at the local watering hole.

A bristle dartboard is made out of sisal fibers, a tough and stiff fiber which is used in various other applications ranging from roping to automotive brakes. The fibers are clumped together and compressed, and are kept in place with steel bands. Regulation size for bristle dart boards is 1.5 inches thick and 18 inches in diameter. A dartboard is divided into 20 wedged sections, numbered from 1 to 20, typically alternating in coloring from white or tan to black. The board has an outer ring worth double normal points, an inner ring worth triple the normal points, and a two-layer bulls-eye.

How to Focus at Darts

Staying focused at darts is essential to consistent performance and accurate throws. Many times darts are played in a crowded, noisy or smoky environment. Even if you are a great darts player, your game can quickly go downhill if you fall victim to distractions like drinks, rowdy pub patrons or music. With some dedication and hard work, there are easy ways to focus at darts and keep your game solid.
1.Avoid distractions where you are playing. Pay close attention to the board, even when someone else is throwing. Don't watch television, buy a drink or play songs on the jukebox. Simply wait your turn and think about the points or hits you need to win.

2.Stand correctly before you throw your darts. Place your dominant foot against the throwing line, and keep your other foot slightly behind it. Don't move your feet or your hips when you throw. Paying close attention to your stance grounds you, and gives you something to focus on while you play.

3.Keep your eyes on the dartboard before you throw. Don't look around at anybody or anything. Practice your throw, and then release the dart while keeping your eyes on your intended target.

4.Pay attention to your elbow when you throw your darts. Keep your elbow up before and after you release the dart. Keep this in your mind as you practice; it will help keep your head in the game and your mind focused.

5.Ignore trash talk or unrelated conversations before, during and after shooting darts. If you let your opponent get inside your head, you can lose focus.

How to Play Golf Darts

Golf darts is a great game to play while sitting at the bar and watching your favorite sporting event or while at home in your basement with your buddies. Darts is a game of skill and concentration, and it's great fun to play the front nine and the back nine when you are playing golf darts. Unlike the outdoor game of golf, you are not limited to a foursome. As many players as you want can play this fast-paced game.

1.Have each player shoot for the bull's eye in the middle of the dartboard. The player who hits the bull's eye goes first and the players who come closest after that follow in order.

2.Notice that the dart board has 20 different slots for the shooter to aim. In golf darts, you will start off by shooting for the No. 1 column because that is the first hole. The players get anywhere between one and three darts to throw for each round. If your dart hits the thin outer doubles ring, that counts as a hole-in-one. The thin inner triples ring counts as a two. The thin wedge inside the triples ring counts as three. The wedge inside the doubles ring counts as four. Missing the number ring completely counts as five. Five is the maximum score.

3.Throw one, two or three darts. In the most common way of playing the game, the last dart thrown is the one that counts. If you hit the inside wedge between the triple ring and the bull's eye with your first shot, you can stop there or choose to go on. If you decide to shoot again and miss the board, you are now at a maximum score of five for that hole. You have another shot and if you hit the triple ring, you end up with a two for that hole.

4.Use strategy when playing golf darts. If you throw your first dart in the thin outer doubles ring, that's a hole-in-one and there's obviously no need to continue to shoot because that's the best score you can get. But, if you get a three on your second shot by hitting the thin wedge inside the triples ring, you are at risk if you throw again because you can end up with a four or five if your final shot is not as good as your second shot.

5.Add up your score after each hole. Shoot for the holes in number order, going from No. 1 to No. 2 to No. 3 and so on until you get up to No. 9 or No. 18. The dart thrower with the lowest score at the end of nine or 18 rounds is the winner.

Training Methods for Darts Practice

Breathing Excercises
The simplest, most common way of overcoming nerves and lost concentration is through focusing on breathing. Very simply close your eyes and focus on taking deep, slow breaths, concentrating more on relaxing on the out breath than the depth of the in breath. With the out breath feel the tension in the muscles let go. Taking three deep breaths before beginning your round will get you into the habit of focus and concentration.

Overcoming Dartitis
Some high-level players, such as five-time world champion Eric Bristow, have suffered from a psychological condition known as dartitis, which makes it difficult for players to allow themselves to let go of the dart at the point of throwing. Players have managed to overcome this problem in a number of ways, often by learning to synchronize their out breath to the release of the dart. However, other, more long-term, solutions may also be necessary, such as improving diet and lifestyle and sometimes switching to the opposite eye you use to line up the shot. Many players may suffer from milder versions of this condition and it may be worth investigating any or all of these approaches to help relieve general tension when playing, thus improving one's shot.

Free Concentration for Darts Practice

The mental challenges of focus and concentration are important in any sport, but with a game like darts, where the slightest deviation from the intended target can mean the difference between a perfect shot and a wasted one, maintaining concentration is more than half of the battle. Regularly practicing concentration techniques can make a massive difference in your ability to focus on the game.

Dead Centering
With any target sport part of the challenge is to focus your self on the target and let muscle memory take care of delivering the projectile. If you try to focus on and consciously control the movement of your body, your throw will not be fluid. In focusing on the target it's important to aim not only at the section of the board you want to hit but on the very dead center of the section. You can prepare for this by simply standing a few feet from the board and focusing on a tiny detail in the center of the section you want to hit, a hole left by a dart, for example. Take a step back, holding the focus on this spot. After a few minutes take a further step back, still maintianing focus on this spot. Repeat this procedure until you are at the throwing line and hold the target spot in your focus for as long as you can.

Snapping to Concentration
During a long game it will be almost impossible to maintain your concentration throughout. What is important is the ability to move quickly from a distracted state of mind to a focused one as soon as it is your turn to take a shot. To build this ability practice each day by focusing on the thought of three darts landing one after another in the desired spot. Hold your concentration on this for as long as possible, then switch on the TV really loud for two minutes; switch it off and go back to focusing on the image of the darts landing. Repeat this procedure until you can move between the mental states with ease.

Gripping the Dart

Gripping styles vary from player to player, but there are certain fundamental aspects of the grip that should apply to every variation. The dart should be held between the fingertips and the thumb, with the thumb resting slightly behind the dart's center of gravity, and as many as four or as few as two fingers in contact with the dart. The number of fingers used should vary based on the length of the dart's barrel, with longer barrels requiring extra fingers. The dart should not slip or wobble between the fingers, but the fingers should not be tensed to an uncomfortable degree. Unused fingers should not be placed in a partial fist shape, as this is likely to disrupt the throwing motion, but rather fully extended or placed in the same position as the fingers touching the dart.

Dart Throwing Stance

The correct throwing stance begins with an acceptable shoulder angle. Ideally, the shoulders should be parallel to the surface of the dart board, although most players find that angles of between 50 and 80 degrees provide the most comfort. The angle of the feet should closely match the angle of the shoulders. The player's front foot should bear the brunt of her weight, while the rear foot should be used for balance. A degree of forward lean will minimize the distance between the player and the board, but lean should be used with moderation, because greater lean coincides with diminishing stability, and can result in back injuries. The balance foot (rear foot) should rest on its toes. The player's back should remain straight, not arched or hunched.

How to Get 180 in Darts

The pinnacle of an amateur dart players' game is to score 180 with three darts. Whether you have already hit a maximum score, or are yet to achieve the feat, scoring 180 on a regular basis takes skill -- and hours of practice. Darts can be played in two forms - soft tip or steel tip. Regardless of which version you play, the approach and technique required to hit a 180 remains the same.

Hitting a Maximum
1.Align your dominant foot so that it is behind or level with the throwing line. Lean your body slightly forward towards the dartboard; this maintains balance and improves the chances of throwing accurately. Your eyes should be focused on the triple 20 target, not the dart.

2.Bring your throwing arm outwards, aiming the dart at a part of the treble 20 bed. Every dart player throws in his or chosen style, so it is best to throw in a way that you find comfortable and effective. Release the first dart; depending on your level of ability the dart should land inside the treble 20 section.

3.Throw the second dart followed by the third. The first dart can be used as a platform to deflect the other darts into the same area of the treble, so it is advisable to aim at the barrel of the first dart. If the second dart lands near the first, you should be presented with a double platform, so aim the third dart towards the first two. This technique is known as stacking. When all three darts land in the triple 20, a 180 is scored.
