TAYLOR beat Adrian Lewis in last night's showpiece final after an incredible fall out with Wade in the semis.
PHIL TAYLOR won the first ever Coral Masters in Edinburgh last night – but his triumph was overshadowed by an astonishing bust-up with darts rival James Wade.
The 16-time world champion produced a superb performance to blitz Adrian Lewis in the Final at the Royal Highland Centre.
But there was a bust-up in The Power’s semi-final before he went on to thrash fellow Englishman Wade 10-1.
Temperatures were raised early in the contest when Taylor appeared the throw one of Wade’s flights off stage.
Clearly, he felt the item was damaged and unwanted but Wade was furious, demanded it back and then complained to match officials.
Wade’s mood darkened and he later threatened to quit or forfeit the match before being ordered by Tournament Director Tommy Cox to continue.
He had totally lost the plot and appeared to throw in the towel to the annoyance of Taylor who completed the formalities to win. However, the end of the match did not signal the end of the trouble.
The argument continued as the players headed backstage and security immediately cleared the Players Bar adjacent to their practice area as tempers frayed.
Taylor tried to explain the build-up to the bust-up later and said: “He (Wade) spent a couple of minutes trying to get a flight in. Then he put it beside my dart case and a lad asked me for it.
“He got another flight out and put it into his dart and then said, “I want that’.
“I said, ‘Why? It’s no good’.
“If you chuck a flight away, pick another one out of your dart case and put it into your dart, then obviously you don’t want the other one. We all do that week in, week out but he wanted it anyway and I just don’t know ... I might say something I’d regret.
“During the game he was asking the referee if he could forfeit the game.
“Tommy Cox told him to get back on stage and do his job which is to entertain people.
“Tell you the truth, he beat Simon Whitlock on Saturday night and there was a bit of controversy there. He was jumping around the stage like a kangaroo when he won.
“Before our game he was sitting looking very confident. I thought, ‘I’m going to have a helluva game here’. I was nervous.
“But I don’t know what happened during the game. Like I said he was asking to forfeit and walk off stage.
“I felt gutted. I won 10-1 but didn’t feel like a winner.”
Yet, somehow, within a couple of hours, Taylor had buried the memory of that clash to average over 106 and lift the trophy.
Lewis earned his final place in one of greatest ever TV matches, beating Raymond van Barneveld 10-9 in a spectacular tussle of big finishes.
The two-time world champion produced an ending in keeping with the contest, raking out a 116 to go through.
But, struggling with flu, Lewis simply couldn’t cope with The Power.
At one stage Taylor looked as though he’d win with a whitewash but a missed dart at the bull at 9-0 allowed his opponent to chalk up a solitary leg.
Taylor quickly finished it to collect the £50,000 winner’s cheque and said: “Adrian isn’t in the best of health so I knew I had to get him under pressure.
“The game against Barney took a lot of him and he only had about five minutes to get ready. I knew all that.
“You always have to play well against Adrian, especially when he’s not well. You have to try everything to get him under pressure when he feels that way and I did. I like to be first name on new trophies.”
Taylor then gave special mention to the Scottish fans who came out in force to support the new event. He said: “It has been fantastic. The locals dished out some stick to test our bottle but it’s part of the fun.”

Popular Games of Darts

A dart board is set up like a pie grid, featuring 20 evenly spaced slots. The center of the board has a bull's-eye, and the other sections are split into four spaces --- two large and two thin areas. The board setup and numbers allow dozens of dart game variations. These games are about adding up and eliminating numbers, and having the best dart-throwing accuracy.
Add 'Em Up
Each player gets three dart throws per round. After five rounds, the player with the highest score wins. The outer rings of each numbered section is worth double the points. The inner ring is worth triple the points. For example, if you got the outer ring on the "20" spot, you would get 40 points. The outer ring of the bull's-eye is worth 25 points, and the bull's-eye is worth 50 points. There is no limit to how many points a player may get.
01 Games
301, 501 and 701 are subtraction games where players have to throw darts and eliminate points as quickly as possible. Scoring is the same as "Add 'Em Up," with the scores subtracted instead of added. Players must reach exactly 0 to win the game. For example, if a player has four points left and the dart lands on a seven, the throw just counts as zero points; however, if the same player's dart lands on a four, the throw counts as four points, which brings the player's score to zero, resulting in a victory. Each player gets three throws per round, and there is no limit on rounds.
Cricket
Use chalk or a piece of paper to set up a small grid. Write the numbers 20 to 15 and an icon for the bull's-eye down the center of the grid. Write the player's names on either side of the numbers. To win, players must get each number three times. Write out each made shot with a slash for one, a formed "X" for the second and the a circle around the "X" to complete that number. A dart thrown in the triple ring counts for all three and the double ring counts as two. The bull's-eye counts as two points, and the bull's-eye ring counts as one point. The first player to clear all of the numbers wins.
Baseball Darts
The reverse side of dart boards often feature a baseball field layout for the dart game "Baseball." In the game, players throw darts in an attempt to score the most runs in five innings. Players throw darts until they reach three outs during each inning. Outs occur when a player throws the dart to an "Out" section or gets the "Strike" section three times during an "At-Bat." Players must keep track of runners on base and the amount of runs using a piece of paper. Sections to score include "Single," "Double," "Triple" and small "Home Run" sections. The "Foul Ball" sections counts towards the strike count. The winner is the player with the most runs after five innings.

How to Play Golf Darts

- Published on Monday, 04 November 2013 11:16
Golf darts is a great game to play while sitting at the bar and watching your favorite sporting event or while at home in your basement with your buddies. Darts is a game of skill and concentration, and it's great fun to play the front nine and the back nine when you are playing golf darts. Unlike the outdoor game of golf, you are not limited to a foursome. As many players as you want can play this fast-paced game.
1.Have each player shoot for the bull's eye in the middle of the dartboard. The player who hits the bull's eye goes first and the players who come closest after that follow in order.
2.Notice that the dart board has 20 different slots for the shooter to aim. In golf darts, you will start off by shooting for the No. 1 column because that is the first hole. The players get anywhere between one and three darts to throw for each round. If your dart hits the thin outer doubles ring, that counts as a hole-in-one. The thin inner triples ring counts as a two. The thin wedge inside the triples ring counts as three. The wedge inside the doubles ring counts as four. Missing the number ring completely counts as five. Five is the maximum score.
3.Throw one, two or three darts. In the most common way of playing the game, the last dart thrown is the one that counts. If you hit the inside wedge between the triple ring and the bull's eye with your first shot, you can stop there or choose to go on. If you decide to shoot again and miss the board, you are now at a maximum score of five for that hole. You have another shot and if you hit the triple ring, you end up with a two for that hole.
4.Use strategy when playing golf darts. If you throw your first dart in the thin outer doubles ring, that's a hole-in-one and there's obviously no need to continue to shoot because that's the best score you can get. But, if you get a three on your second shot by hitting the thin wedge inside the triples ring, you are at risk if you throw again because you can end up with a four or five if your final shot is not as good as your second shot.
5.Add up your score after each hole. Shoot for the holes in number order, going from No. 1 to No. 2 to No. 3 and so on until you get up to No. 9 or No. 18. The dart thrower with the lowest score at the end of nine or 18 rounds is the winner.

How to Care for a Bristle Dart Board

- Published on Saturday, 02 November 2013 10:19
Hard-tip darts, with metal points, require a board that will allow the metal points to penetrate and remain in a scoring area. Metal tip darts are usually thrown at bristle boards. Proper care will extend the life of an expensive bristle board and keep it in top condition whether it's used for competitions or just leisurely fun at home.
1.Understand how bristle boards are made. Bristle board construction begins with long ropes of tightly bound sisal fibers 2-inches in diameter, wrapped in light-weight paper. Biscuits about 1 1/2-inches thick are sliced from the ropes. Many biscuits are glued to a round sheet of particle board and tightly compressed with a permanent metal band. This process arranges the sisal fibers at right angles to the backer board. The face of the biscuits is sanded and painted in a prescribed pattern. A movable wire divider called a “spider” delineates scoring areas is attached to the face of the board.
2.Rotate the bristle board frequently. This reduces and distributes the wear in the highest scoring areas of the dart board. Remove the wire number ring. A bristle board is mounted on a centered pivot point. Rotate the board clockwise so the next black section is at the top of the board. Replace the number ring with 20 at the top and the bristle board is ready for play. Rotate as often as once a week, depending on the amount of play on your board.
3.Brush the face of the bristle board daily with a soft paintbrush to remove dust and bits of sisal that are pulled from the board.
4.Spray the surface of the board very lightly about once a week. In climates with very hot, low humidity, bristle boards tend to dry out. Do not over-spray as this will cause the board to swell up and cause the spider to bind.

Bristle Dartboard vs. Other Options

For an authentic game of darts, the bristle dart board remains the top option available. Electronic dart boards are commonly used and provide benefits such as automatic and instant scorekeeping, as well as a variety of included games. However, both the darts used and the board itself limits the quality of play. Other materials can be used for traditional dart boards, but bristle dartboards are generally the most durable and the highest quality.

A bristle dartboard is made out of sisal fibers, a tough and stiff fiber which is used in various other applications ranging from roping to automotive brakes. The fibers are clumped together and compressed, and are kept in place with steel bands. Regulation size for bristle dart boards is 1.5 inches thick and 18 inches in diameter. A dartboard is divided into 20 wedged sections, numbered from 1 to 20, typically alternating in coloring from white or tan to black. The board has an outer ring worth double normal points, an inner ring worth triple the normal points, and a two-layer bulls-eye.

When shopping for dartboards for a home, bar or even an office break room, it's important to understand all of the different options that are available. The bristle dartboard is the classic choice, but few individuals know what it really is, what it's made out of or why it's so beneficial. Learning about the bristle dartboard will help consumers make a sound purchasing decision, or may simply help individuals appreciate the equipment the next time they shoot a game at the local watering hole.

How to Win at Darts
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Thursday, 31 October 2013 10:28
Darts may look like a simple game, but the world's best dart throwers have spent years refining their craft. In competitive play, practice, strategy and knowledge of the game can help you become a better player. With effort, you can learn how to win at darts.
1.Obtain good equipment, advises Phil Taylor, a 15-time World Champion dart thrower. Darts come in three basic pieces: the tip, the shaft and the flight, which is the feathered part away from the tip. YOu don't need to buy the most expensive darts, but find professional-grade equipment that you are comfortable throwing.
2.Create a repeatable throwing motion, as consistency will be key to your dart-throwing success. In general, line up directly in front of the dartboard and create a parallel plane from your nose and the target. Lean slightly toward the dartboard, but not so much that you lose your center of balance. Use the mentality of placing the dart, rather than throwing it, into the dartboard.
3.Practice -- often, repeating the same method: lining up the shot and maintaining an even throwing motion.
4.Know the rules of the specific game you are playing and take advantage of them. For instance, if you are playing the classic '01' games, which count down from a number ending in 01 such as 301 and descend to zero, aim for the highest point value to reduce your count quickly. Aim for the triple zero ring (60 points), and not the bull's-eye (50 points), to maximize your point value.
5.Create a game strategy to take advantage of your opponent. In games of cricket, for instance, aim for the highest point values first and then go around the board in descending order until you've hit all the targets. If your opponent is having trouble hitting a target, the better strategy may be to run up points and build a lead. Practice in competitive situations will help you get a feel for the right move.
6.Handle the pressure during tight matches and at the end of games. Don't let your opponents distract you, and use your repetitive throwing motion to your advantage. Throwing the dart the same way each time will help you win.

How to Become a Professional Dart Thrower
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Thursday, 31 October 2013 10:26
The American Dart League (ADL) is one of the major circuits for professional dart throwers. The league offers both English “steel tip” and electronic “soft tip” tournaments. Another league, the American Darts Organization (ADO), also sanctions many professional dart tournaments. The third major professional dart organization is the International Dart Players Association (IDPA). Unfortunately, there is only a handful of dart players who can expect serious earnings potential from competing as dart professional. Read on to learn how to become a professional dart thrower.
1.Buy some darts and a dartboard. You should purchase both “steel tip” and electronic “soft tip” darts.
2.Practice dart throwing long and hard with both tip types. There are many amateur dart tournaments which utilize one type or the other.
3.Join the ADO, IDPA or the ADL and pay the appropriate membership fees. The ADO sponsors regional tournaments. The International Dart Players Association sponsors tournaments around the world.
4.Compete as much as possible as an amateur in local dart tournaments. After you develop professional level dart throwing skills, you can move on to joining either the ADO, IDPA or ADL professional circuits. Both professional and amateur tournaments sometimes limit entrants to local residents or other limitations.
5.Compete in ADL, IDPA or ADO-sanctioned open tournaments. This is where the big money is. You’ll need to be flexible enough with your schedule to be able to compete on a professional level. The ADO sponsors tournaments which are often held in pubs or taverns.
6.Read directories of sanctioned dart tournaments and prize money offered in each tournament which can be found at the respective IDPA, ADL and ADO websites.
