Rare earth market update on September 5, 2025

This week, the price trends of mainstream light and heavy rare earths in China perged: praseodymium-neodymium prices retreated from their highs, while terbium-holmium prices oscillated upward, with holmium oxide prices rising to approximately 575,000 yuan per ton.

In the light rare earth market, praseodymium-neodymium products are currently in a high-price range, and with some downstream enterprises having completed their phased procurement plans, suppliers’ confidence in maintaining prices has weakened. However, due to strong support from production costs and industry optimism about future market prospects, the downward adjustment in praseodymium-neodymium prices has been relatively limited. In the medium-heavy rare earth market, terbium prices initially rose then declined: an increase in downstream inquiries at the beginning of the week, combined with the modest prior rise in terbium prices, prompted suppliers to raise quotes with significant room for adjustment. However, as market inquiry enthusiasm waned toward the weekend, terbium prices began to decline slightly.

According to CTIA GROUP LTD Online, this week, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by approximately 10,000 yuan per ton, a drop of 1.64%; the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal decreased by approximately 10,000 yuan per ton, a drop of 1.33%; the price of terbium oxide increased by approximately 390 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 5.52%; the price of dysprosium oxide increased by approximately 20,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 1.23%; the price of 55N neodymium-iron-boron blanks increased by approximately 1 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 0.37%; and the price of neodymium-iron-boron scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) decreased by approximately 11 yuan per kilogram, a drop of 1.72%. This indicates that praseodymium-neodymium prices declined slightly this week, while dysprosium-terbium prices rose.

In terms of news, recently, the Baotou Industry and Information Technology Bureau reported that from January to July 2025, the added value of large-scale industries in Baotou increased by 11.5% year-on-year, surpassing the national average (6.3%) and the regional average (6.4%) by 5.2 and 5.1 percentage points, respectively, and maintaining double-digit growth for 59 consecutive months. From January to July, the added value of crystalline silicon photovoltaic, onshore wind power equipment, and rare earth industries increased by 13.1%, 27.1%, and 18.1% year-on-year, respectively, collectively contributing 6.3 percentage points to the growth of the added value of large-scale industries.
