Playing darts can bring hours of relaxation and fellowship with friends and family. Learning how to score in a particular game is easy enough for anyone to learn. Whether playing x01 (pronounced oh-one) or Cricket, the game can result in fond memories. Scoring in a game of darts requires only a few basic things. After you know these, scoring becomes a matter of the game being played. The dart board is divided into twenty sections and a bull’s eye with each section having a corresponding number. The instructions here are for the game of x01.
1.Take note of the outer ring of the dart board(B). This ring is also divided into 20 sections and is slightly narrow. The dart that lands in this area scores twice the number of that section of the board.
2.Locate the inner ring (C) that is between the bull’s eye and the outer ring. Darts that land here are worth three times the amount of the particular numbered section.
3.understand the bull's eye. The bull’s eye (E), usually red, is in the direct center of the board. Hitting this gives the player 50 points. The small ring (D) around the bull’s eye is worth 25 points.
4.Keep careful account of all areas. The widest sectioned area count for the points that are the number of that section (A). Each dart thrown will collect points that are then subtracted from the x01 game total.
5.The first person to get enough points to reach exactly zero wins the game.

How to Play Darts

1.Hang the dartboard so that the center is 5 feet 8 inches from the floor.
2.Mark the throwing line, called the 'oche' (rhymes with 'hockey'), with nonskid tape. The line should be 7 feet, 9 1 /4 inches from the face of the dartboard (not the wall), according to the World Darts Federation.
3.Make sure the tape mark lies so that the front edge is the actual line. In other words, a player may step on the tape, but not past it.
4.Give each player or team three darts, and determine who throws first by having each player or team representative throw one dart. The player or team whose dart is closest to the center, or bull's-eye, gets to go first.
5.Warm up, as competitive dart players do, by alternating throws until each person has thrown nine darts.
6.Once the game begins, take your turn by throwing your three darts.
7.Add up the score. Each part of the board has a number, and that is the dart's score.
8.Count a dart that misses the board completely as a throw. The score for that dart is zero.
9.Remove your darts and allow the other player to throw.
10.Alternate until the game is over. There are numerous dart games, including the simple one in which players throw five sets, and whoever has the highest score wins.

The Phases of the Dart Throw

Aiming: Put your eyes, the dart and the target you want to hit in one line. Focus the target, not the dart or that pretty girl/boy just entering the bar. Use aiming points on the target if you like, or aim in a different way, but: Aim!. Most darters do aiming naturally, but surpisingly some beginners don't do from the start. It's a must DO, so do it.
Backward move: Do this, but don't do it too fast. Many beginners fear the necessary loss of aiming during the backward move, but controlling this is only a matter of practice. There are only few successful players out who omit the backward movement, so it's another DO for 99 percent of us. How far you move back is a personal thing, but it's good to move back quite a bit. If you find it comfortable, you can and should move back as far as possible. You can avoid slamming into your eyes or nose by pulling back under your chin or beside your cheek (the one in your FACE, of course!), that depends on your personal technique. A typical error here is not to pull back enough because control of this is difficult, but you will thus sacrifice a lot of acceleration space and accuracy. Better practice more than going the easy way!
Acceleration: Not that crucial as you might think. Do it naturally, and don't do it too fast or with too much force. Do it smoothely in one move and all the way to the follow-through. Remember the elbow coming up. IF you do wrist-snap, then your hand goes forward in this phase until full extension of the whole arm in follow-through.
Release: As wrote above, with the right throwing this comes naturally and is no big problem. If you have troubles with the release point, then most probably you do a technical error, don't raise your elbow or don't do follow-through. This is the critical point for your wrist-snap. The hand must be in the correct angle to the forearm here. If it has travelled further, your dart points down at the release point, and this - well, refer to the 'The Dart' section at the end of this document.

Dartboard Variations

- Published on Monday, 14 October 2013 12:38
In the United Kingdom, dartboard variations exist that alter the numerical sequence and scoring a bit. One board, known as the Yorkshire or Kent Doubles board, lacks the triple score ring in standard boards. The Lincoln board is similar to the Yorkshire board, but is black and white rather than featuring colors. The Lancashire board matches the Lincoln board, but is smaller and usually made of wood. There are also boards that use only multiples of five as the scoring, known as the London Fives and Wide Fives boards. The London Fives board features thinner double and triple rings, while the Wide Fives board has wider rings.

Scoring of Dartboard

In addition to the randomized numbers, standard dartboards also feature two different rings that alter the scoring and focus on dart player skill. The outer ring of the dartboard doubles the points for that section. For example, a dart landing in the outer ring in the 20 section would be worth 40 points. The smaller inner ring triples the score. Games can be played either by trying to achieve the highest score combination with three darts or by starting with a certain score and subtracting points to try and reach zero.

Number Arrangement of the Dartboard
- Details

- Published on Saturday, 12 October 2013 10:51
On a standard dartboard, the numbers for scoring seem to be in a random position. The numbers in clockwise order from the top are: 20, 1, 18, 4, 13, 6, 10, 15, 2, 17, 3, 19, 7, 16, 8, 11, 14, 9, 12 and 5. At first glance, the numbering system looks rather random. However, it is believed that the numbers were arranged in this way to prevent any way of cheating to reach a maximum score. The numbers alternate from high to low to decrease the chance of winning the game out of luck and emphasize the need for skill.

Scoring System Creation of Dartboard

The scoring system of the modern standard dartboard, known as the London dartboard, has two possible origins. Pub Quiz Help notes that Brian Gamlin created the numbering sequence in 1896. Gamlin was a Lancaster carpenter according to the Online Guide to Traditional Games. However, dart historians have trouble finding information about Gamlin and his supposed invention. The other potential inventor was Thomas William Buckle. Buckle lived in Yorkshire as a domino maker and is believed to have developed the numbering system in 1913.

The Origins of Darts
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Saturday, 12 October 2013 10:13
The exact beginnings of darts is unknown, but according to the website the Online Guide to Traditional Games, some dart authorities believe that darts is connected to the game Puff and Dart. Puff and Dart was first referenced in two journals in 1819 and was described as a game involving blowing a dart through a tube to try and reach a red center. The game is thought to have evolved into a French fairground game in the early 20th century. The segmented dart board was developed there as a way to make it seem easy to win a prize. Others note the existence of a board thought to predate 1900 known as the Grimsby board, featuring a semi-random numbering system pointing toward a game of skill instead of randomized tossing.

How to Master the Sport of Darts

Dart historian Patrick Chaplin traces the game's history to the archers of old England, referring to that fact that in England, "arrows" is a common name for the sport today. A popular bar diversion, dart leagues and competitive tournaments allow players to display their skills for prizes and bragging rights. In 1984 John Lowe, a three-time World Championship title holder, threw a nine-dart finish captured on television before a live audience for the first time. This level of play is afforded to the masters of the game and is open for achievement by a dedicated student and player.
1.Purchase an instruction book about the game or watch professional videos for improving play. Books such as "Fundartmentals: How To Throw Well and Win More," by Frank Pratt and "The American Darts Organization Book of Darts," by Chris Carey, offer tips about equipment, different types of dart games to play and tips from professionals about improving your game.
2.Review the fundamentals of your technique. Rick Osgood of the website Cyber Darts says, "Accuracy begins with a solid stance. Keep your feet planted solidly on the floor and avoid lunging, rocking or lifting the back foot off the floor during the dart toss." A solid foundation allows the player to work on finessing his game.
3.Play each game with a focused intensity and for as long as attention can be placed squarely on the game. Playing beyond a period where each throw matters will not increase the level of play, no matter if shooting with a partner or in solitary practice.
4.Practice often. Karlheinz Z?chling, a professional player from Austria, suggests that how often a player practices is more important than how much he practices. "Try to practice each day of the week, with not more than one or two days off," he says.
5.Join a league for regular competitive play. This will pit you against other players of varying skill levels and increase experience in playing when the stakes matter. Getting nerves and concentration under control while in competition is large part of mastering the game.
6.Sign up for local and statewide tournaments. Consistently winning games in a bar league means you may want to take your game to the next level. Playing against increasingly better players will improve your own game and move you up the ranks in amateur standings.

How to Play 501 Darts
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info

1. Decide if you are playing a singles match or with two teams of two.
2. Divide the score sheet into two halves, one for each team. Label each side with the players' names or initials, so you can keep track of which score belongs to which team
3 .Each team starts with 501 points. The object is to work your way down to zero.
4 .The first player throws three darts and adds up his score. Subtract that number from 501 and mark it on the score sheet.
5. The first player removes the darts, and the next player throws. If playing four players, the turns alternate between teams.
6. A player must end the game on a double. If you have 32 points left, you hit the double 16 to get out. The narrow outer ring of the dartboard is the doubles ring. (The narrow inner ring is worth triple points.) The highest double you can get out on is the center bulls eye, which is 50 points.
7 .Darts that miss the double ring and land on another number must be counted into your score. If you have 40 points, you need a double 20. If your dart lands in the single 20 section, you must subtract 20 points from your score. With 20 points left, you now need a double 10 to end the game.
