660,000 Mu of Molybdenum-Rich Land Found in Ningxia

Ningxia has discovered 660,000 Mu of molybdenum-rich land and 109,000 Mu of selenium-rich land in Yuanzhou District, Guyuan City, according to the Hohhot Natural Resources Comprehensive Investigation Center of China Geological Survey. This achievement will provide an important basis for the local development of characteristic agriculture and help Liupanshan's concentrated and contiguous destitute areas to win the battle against poverty.

In plants, molybdenum is an essential component in two enzymes that convert nitrate into nitrite (a toxic form of nitrogen) and then into ammonia before it is used to synthesize amino acids within the plant. It is also needed by symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria in legumes to fix atmospheric nitrogen. Molybdenum can help to promote the absorption of phosphorus nutrients in plants, promote the formation and transformation of carbohydrates in plants, increase chlorophyll content, and maintain chlorophyll stability.

The geochemical survey of land quality serves the major national strategy and the geological survey of land development and protection. Its purpose is to serve the development, utilization and protection of land resources, asset valuation and spatial planning through the survey, and support the prevention and control of soil pollution, poverty alleviation, and rural revitalization strategies.

The land quality geochemical survey results in 4 townships and 7 towns in Yuanzhou District, Guyuan City in Ningxia showed that the overall land quality in Yuanzhou District reached high-quality and good grades, meeting the standards of green or pollution-free food, and the area of production area reached 54.5%, 109,000 Mu of selenium-rich land has broad prospects. The investigation center used selenium-rich, molybdenum-rich, copper-rich, zinc-rich, and other indicators as the basis of utilizing suggestions.
