Carrying CATL Batteries, Fist Diesel-Electric Hybrid Ship Puts into Operation

Carrying CATL batteries, China's first diesel-electric hybrid cruise ship "DA WAN QU YI HAO" was officially put into operation at Shenzhen Shekou Cruise Homeport, on September 1.

It is reported that the full ship of diesel-electric hybrid "DA WAN QU YI HAO" has a total of 144 high-energy density CATL power battery packs, using advanced CTP (cell to pack) module-free technology, and the total power reaches 2520kWh, which is equivalent to the power of 200 hybrid vehicles. The battery compartment is located on both sides of the bow and bottom compartment, and the cabin is equipped with air-conditioning to control the temperature at 25±2℃, which is conducive to the best performance of the battery.

Safety is the most significant concern for marine power battery systems. CATL is the first domestic company to pass the approval and inspection (including batteries, battery packs, and battery management systems) of the China Classification Society (CCS) latest inspection guide "Pure Battery Power Ship Inspection Guide". As a power battery company, the products of CATL are equipped with multi-layer monitoring and alarm functions from the battery cell to ensure the safety and reliability of products.

It is worth mentioning that the CATL battery pack adopts IP67 design, which can effectively avoid the safety risks caused by water vapor, salt spray, and dust. The battery pack shell is made of a high-strength steel plate, which can meet the relevant regulations of the classification society and pass the vibration, mechanical shock, and related safety tests such as simulated collision and fire.

In recent years, with the continuous development of the field of electric ships, CATL doesn't want to be laid behind, the company continuously develops business to various waters, from inland lakes and rivers, offshore to oceans. Since 2019, the company has successively provided CATL batteries for various pure electric cruise ships and official ships in the Yangtze River Basin, Suzhou Inland River, and Xinjiang Inner Lake.

The diesel-electric hybrid "DA WAN QU YI HAO" cruise ship equipped with CATL batteries has a length of 71.95 meters, a width of 18.72 meters, a design draft of 2.57 meters, a quota of 350 passengers, an operating speed of 14 knots, and a full load displacement of 1,350 tons. The cruise ship will go back and forth between Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macau. Each trip lasts 4 hours and includes a 40-minute pure electric journey. The new hybrid power setting allows the ship to achieve "ultra-low emissions, ultra-low pollution, and ultra-low noise" standards.
