Tungsten Iodide

Many people don't know what the use of tungsten iodide is. As a matter of fact, a man with a car in his family should have an intersection with it.

There are three types of headlights: Xenon, led, and halogen, of which most of our home use are halogen. Alogen gas is added to the common incandescent lamp and become Halogen headlamp, the light of halogen headlamp is warm and yellow. The principle is that the point light source is transformed into parallel light after passing through a parabolic lens, thus providing illumination for the automobile. The biggest advantage of halogen lamps lies in its penetrating power, simple structure and low cost. This is also the reason why halogen headlamps are widely used.

Incandescent lamp that set in halogen headlamps uses tungsten filament, but the car halogen headlamps are different from conventional lamps, it must have a certain life expectancy, otherwise, it is unsafe and trouble to repair. After light up incandescent lamp, the filament temperature is less than the boiling point of tungsten, but there will still be a small amount of tungsten in high temperature volatilization, in the end, the tungsten light bulb burnt out and died.

Iodine is added to the bulb of an automobile headlight. When tungsten is volatilized at high temperature, it reacts with iodine and produces a low boiling compound - tungsten iodide. Tungsten iodide breaks down after a high temperature, so that tungsten will again adhere to the filament, while iodine will continue to dissociate between the filament and the shell in gas form. Thus, the frequency of tungsten filament consumption will be greatly reduced, and the service life of halogen automobile headlamps will be lengthened accordingly.

Public lights such as street lights, which need to be opened for a long time in public places, have the form of tungsten iodide.
