China Will Take the Lead in Holding the Second Generation of “Artificial Sun"

July 5, China's superconducting tokamak experimental device (EAST) for the first time to achieve a hundred seconds of steady-state high-end operation mode, refresh the world record.

What's the use of artificial sun? A one million kW power station requires 500 thousand tons of coal, and nuclear power plants require 30 tons of nuclear fuel. Similarly, thermonuclear fusion plants require only 100 kilograms of heavy water and lithium. Thermonuclear fusion is very safe compared to current nuclear power plants, because the product of fusion is helium. Resources are infinite and clean at the same time, so the man-made sun is considered by scientists to be the ultimate source of energy for the future.
 
As an experimental device for the first full superconducting non circular cross section nuclear fusion, the "Oriental Super Ring" EAST has concentrated many extreme temperatures such as ultra high temperature, ultra-low temperature, super large current, super magnetic field and ultrahigh vacuum. And what makes the Chinese proud is that the localization rate of the whole project of EAST has reached over 90%, and the rate of self research is over 70%. At the same time, 68 technologies and achievements with independent intellectual property rights have been obtained.
 
It is understood that than the EAST advanced China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) will be completed in 2020. In the future, if anyone first mastered nuclear fusion technology, it would have gained the commanding heights of energy. According to the current progress, China is already in the first echelon of the artificial solar program, and is most likely to take the lead in realizing nuclear fusion power generation.
 
EAST's new record is only a "small goal" of China's man-made solar plan, it is China's own research and development of the next generation of nuclear fusion device CFETR laid a solid theoretical foundation and experience. It can be said that relying on a strong comprehensive national strength, rich strategic resources, excellent scientific research personnel and the development of rapid material industry, China already has hold a second "artificial sun myth" of strength.
