As a kind of tungstate, Zinc tungstate’s molecular formula is ZnWO4 .It is white powder, and stable at normal temperature and pressure. The preparation process of zinc tungstate is mainly doped decoloration process and germanium doping process.
Zinc tungstate crystal is a scintillator with excellent properties. It has the following advantages:
1, high-density (799g/cm3).
The corresponding radiation length is short, so that the high-energy detector is very dense, thus reducing the cost of the instrument.
2, better efficiency and energy
The luminescence efficiency and energy resolution of crystals are better than those of Bi4Ge3012 crystals.
3, good radiation damage resistance
4, small afterglow
The afterglow is small, and the material used for the synthesis of zinc tungstate is not hygroscopic, non-toxic, and of which the price is available.
In view of the above characteristics, Zinc tungstate is regarded as a new type of material and widely used in the domains of microwave materials, scintillator materials and optical lattice materials. The advantages of ZnWO4 such as high density and high light output, short attenuation time and not liable to deliquescence can make up for the deficiencies of the traditional scintillator NaI and CsI. Therefore, ZnWO4 single crystal scintillation crystals have been widely used as a probe, the Cavendish Laboratory of Cambridge University, the American Cancer Research and Siemens in Germany all use Zinc tungstate as probes for radiation metrology probes and X-CT.
Recently, the photocatalytic properties of Zinc tungstate have attracted people's interest. Some scholars have prepared nanorod by hydrothermal method which shows high activity and stability when used for photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue. Zinc nanorod which can rapidly degrade the artificial dye Luo Danming under light were synthesized by microwave hydrothermal method. In addition, nano Zinc tungstate is used as a semiconductor catalyst for the degradation of benzene halides and water pollutants. Zinc tungstate is truly a widely used photocatalyst with high quality.
