Amphoteric collector is a heterogeneous organic compound with both anions and cations in the molecule. The common used collectors include a-amino fatty acid, alkyl phosphate (salt), alkylamine propionic acid, oxyethylene type collector.
The amphoteric collector is more adaptable to the pH of the pulp and can be used in almost the pH range of the entire slurry, but in the low pH environment, since it mainly acts on the surface of the mineral due to electrostatic forces, other regulators in combination with the use of mineral surface load selective capture conditions, compared with oleic acid, it is also less affected by the hardness of water.
Among various types of tungsten scheelite collector, the more effective amphoteric collector is an amino acid such as RO-12 (N-tetradecanoylamino acid), RO-14 ((N-hexadecylaminohexanoic acid), 4RO-12 Tetraacylaminobutyric acid), RO-14 (N-hexadecylaminobutyric acid).
Studies have shown that the collection capacity of amphoteric collector is not lost in fatty acids and oleic acid, but with better selectivity. It is well known that the biggest problem in the scheelite flotation is the separation of tungsten and calcium-containing gangue such as calcite, fluorite and mica, oleic acid collectors, generally need to mix and match to achieve the effect, and amphoteric collector in the selection process only need to use a one kind, mainly due to amphoteric collector for the strong absorption of the white tungsten, but not to the gangue minerals. The obvious strong and weak contrast makes the flotation work becomes simple.
