Tungsten concentrate rougher flotation is the first pre-selection process after it is explored form mine. Due to uneven distribution of tungsten concentrate in quartz vein mineral, waste ore will be blended during exploration process. Pre-selection of concentrate and waste ore will improve efficiency, save cost and time, lowering wastage.
Artificial beneficiation has been used for a long time in China. Tungsten concentrate has clear boundary with surrounding rock and distinctive color, so it is easy to be recognized and selected. For years, abundant tungsten concentrate can be easily recognized by visual, so artificial beneficiation is a simple way.
There are two kind of artificial beneficiation. If minerals containing tungsten is picked out, it is called anti artificial beneficiation. If waste stone is picked out, it is called straight artificial beneficiation. By artificial beneficiation, waste ore rate can reach 50%, grade is 0.015~0.04%. We can see the efficiency is quite low.
Tungsten mine in south of Jiangxi improves artificial beneficiation and upgrades it into active sieve jigging and anti artificial beneficiation. The explored tungsten concentrate is firstly crushed, sieved and washed, then enters artificial beneficiation. It lowers grain size of pre-selection minerals, easy to be recognized, and more efficient. By this method, artificial wastage can reach 63%.
Although heavy medium pre-selection method and photoelectric selection method are developed these years, the producing efficiency is far more than artificial beneficiation. However, due to its simple, low cost and stable property, artificial beneficiation is still main method for tungsten concentrate rougher flotation.
