Tungsten Concentrate Rougher Flotation – Heavy Medium Pre-selection Method

Tungsten concentrate rougher flotation is the first pre-selection process after it is explored form mine. Due to uneven distribution of tungsten concentrate in quartz vein mineral, waste ore will be blended during exploration process. Pre-selection of concentrate and waste ore will improve efficiency, save cost and time, lowering wastage.

Heavy medium pre-selection method is a newly developed method in rougher flotation practice. The principle is doping heavy liquid medium into mineral grains of different proportion. The light grain will suspend on the surface of medium, heavy one will flow to the bottom. These two types of mineral grain will be separated from medium. Pyrite or avasite is used as heavy agent.

Hydrocyclones and current separator are used in heavy medium pre-selection method. It has three steps：

1. Crush tungsten ore with crusher into medium size.

2. Separate suspending and sinking product in separator, then clean medium.

3. Spray water to clean medium which is attached on suspending and sinking product, the obtained medium can be recycled.

Heavy medium pre-selection method has higher efficiency for 20% than artificial beneficiation. In the period of expensive labor cost, the large scale pre-selection process can lower cost. Disadvantages is that weighting agent is hard to obtain and will make process more complex.
