Tungsten Application

Melting point of tungsten is 3410℃, boiling point is 5900℃, it evaporates slowly under high temperature, has low thermal expansion coefficient, high hardness, high density, good electric emission property. 

It has wide application in industrial field, such as mine, metallurgy, machining, construction, transportation, electricity, chemistry, light industry, textile, military, aviation, technology. Tungsten is regarded as teeth of industry, has strategic position.

50% of the explored tungsten concentrate is used to smelt high quality steel, 35% is used to produce tungsten carbide, 10% is used to produce tungsten wire and the rest 5% in other field.

In steel industry, tungsten is used as FeW in smelting process. After tungsten is added into steel, it will finer its crystallization, make it more hard and anti high temperature as well as anti corrosion.

Cemented carbide is the main application of tungsten. Tungsten is main alloy element for high speed steel, alloy structured steel, spring steel, heat-resisted steel and stainless steel. Tungsten can become alloy state by solution strengthening, precipitation strengthening and dispersion strengthening, and at the same time possess the good property of tungsten. Tungsten has become ferrous metal alloy to have huge impact to modern civilization. Tungsten carbide blade cutting speed far exceeds the best steel blade. Tungsten alloy is widely used in producing nozzle of rocket propelling, aviation material, armour piercing shell, cutting blade, drilling machine, hard mould and wire-drawing die.

Tungsten is also necessary in electronic industry field. It can be used to produce lamp wire, cathode and grid electrode of electric shock tube, cathode of high voltage rectifier and cathode heater in various electronic machine. With spread of digital products, tungsten is used in television, cellphone and watch.

With development of science and technology, tungsten is playing an more important role in our daily life. Tungsten gold can be used as jewelry which is cheap and pretty. Ammonium metatungstate can be used as catalyst in oil industry, painting, coating, textile coloring agent, solid lubricant agent. Tungsten alloy gyroscope is important part of planes, naval vessels and rockets. Tungsten and plastic composite is odorless, can be used to replace lead in the future so as to reduce harm to environment.
