There are two kinds of understanding towards the tungsten carbide floating reamer in the field of machining. The first kind of understanding is that the reamer can float along the axial direction or vertical direction or even both. What calls for special attention is that the floating reamer is completely different from the floating boring tool. The rotation of the former comes from the cutter itself, while the latter from the workpiece. The second understanding is that it is a kind of adjustable reamer with its diameter being able to have some minor adjustments. Relatively speaking, the second understanding is closer to the real meaning of “floating” in the term of floating reamer.

The tungsten carbide floating reamer itself cannot float; it actually floats with the help of its reamer shank which adopts a structure specially designed, enabling the shank to float along the axial direction or vertical direction or even both. In this way, errors caused by thermal deformation of machine tools, workpiece setting,etc. can be compensated.

Tungsten carbide floating reamers are normally applied in boring millers or CNC machining center machine tools, as well as the processing occasions where high accuracy reaming is needed. It is also widely used in areas like automobile engine, marine engine, hydraulic pressure, medical treatment, energy, and so on.
