Application of Tungsten Wire in Glass Industry

Tungsten wire has the characteristics of high melting point, good mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and low thermal expansion coefficient, and has extensive and important applications in glass industry.

1. Electrode material in glass melting process

In glass industry, tungsten wire is often used as electrode material in electric melting furnace. Electric melting furnace melts glass raw materials into liquid glass by electrode heating, and the high melting point and high temperature resistance of tungsten wire enable it to withstand the high temperature environment of molten glass (usually more than 1500°C). Tungsten wire as an electrode can stably conduct current and ensure the uniformity and efficiency of the melting process. In addition, the chemical inertness of tungsten wire makes it difficult to react with the chemical components in molten glass at high temperature, thereby avoiding contamination of glass products and ensuring product quality.

2. Application in glass cutting and processing

Tungsten wire is widely used in glass cutting and processing due to its high hardness and wear resistance. Ultrafine tungsten wire can be used as a precision cutting tool to perform high-precision processing of glass through mechanical or thermal cutting. For example, when producing thin glass (such as mobile phone screen glass) or glass products with complex shapes, tungsten wire can provide stable cutting performance, improve cutting accuracy and efficiency, and reduce material waste. Its small and tough characteristics make it particularly suitable for high-precision processing needs.

3. Heating elements in the glass industry

Tungsten wire is often used as a heating element in the glass industry, especially in annealing furnaces or heat treatment equipment. After forming, glass products need to be annealed to eliminate internal stress, and heating elements made of tungsten wire can work stably for a long time at high temperatures, provide a uniform thermal field, and ensure the structural stability and optical properties of glass products. The high resistance characteristics of tungsten wire enable it to heat up quickly, shorten the processing cycle, and improve production efficiency.
