New Structural Yellow Tungsten Oxide Photocatalytic Material

Researchers have prepared a new structural yellow tungsten oxide photocatalytic material by hydrothermal method in a high-pressure reactor. Wherein, the obtained yellow tungsten oxide (WO3) has characteristics of large specific surface area, a size in the micro-nano range, good structural stability, and a narrow band gap. So, it is convenient for applications of photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes. Moreover, preparation of yellow tungsten oxide by hydrothermal method has advantages of easy availability of raw materials, mild conditions and simple operation.

Compared with WO3 nanomaterials of other morphologies, such as nanorods and nanosheets, the new structural yellow tungsten oxide photocatalytic material has advantages as following as:

1. Novel appearance: Hexagonal WO3 micro-nano structure formed by self-assembly of multiple regular polygonal nano-sheets has a relatively uniform size;

2. There is a wider light absorption band, and the absorption peak is located in the visible light region (654nm), which can achieve the degradation of organic dyes under natural light;

3. It belongs to orthorhombic crystal system, with good crystallinity, stable crystal form, and higher photocatalytic efficiency.
