Tungsten alloy collimator is an important part of X-ray CT scanner in a PET-CT scanner, which can achieve both functions of collimation and radiation shielding. Wherein, PET-CT is a nuclear medicine technique which combines a positron emission tomography (PET) scanner and an X-ray CT scanner to acquire sequential images from both devices in the same session, which are combined into a single superposed image.

PET-CT has revolutionized medical diagnosis in many fields, by adding precision of anatomic localization to functional imaging, which was previously lacking from pure PET imaging. Wherein, tungsten alloy collimator plays a role of great importance in a PET-CT scanner. Why choose tungsten alloy but not lead as the raw material of a collimator? Because tungsten alloy is a lead-free shielding material of higher density than that of lead. And it is non-toxic and non-polluting. So, tungsten alloy collimators are used to replace lead collimators, and have a wide prospect of application.
