Microwave Heating Ammonium Paratungstate to Prepare Tungsten Trioxide

It is a new process to obtain tungsten trioxide by microwave heating ammonium paratungstate. The process requires a short calcination time (only 4min, while the traditional method takes about 2h), and the prepared yellow WO3 powder product is of good quality so that it is worth applying in industry.

Preparation of Tungsten Trioxide by Microwave Heating Ammonium Paratungstate

Weigh 10g of dried ammonium paratungstate (WO3: 88.5% mass fraction) into the crucible, and record the weight W1, calcined in a modified multi-mode microwave oven under 650W for 4min, taken out, weighed after cooling, and recorded weight W2. Use W1-W2 to obtain the weight loss of ammonium paratungstate and calculate the actual weight loss rate (%). According to the chemical equation of APT thermal decomposition, the theoretical weight loss rate = 14.13%. Divide the actual weight loss rate obtained by the experiment by the theoretical weight loss rate to obtain the actual decomposition rate (%) of APT, which reaches 96.67%.
