Tungsten is one of the metals with the highest melting point and the most common arc electrode material. Tungsten electrode material is mainly used in tungsten argon arc welding. It is generally used as cathode part in the process of argon arc welding. It is almost suitable for welding all metal materials.
At present, thorium or other rare earth elements are usually added to tungsten metal to stimulate the electron escape from tungsten metal, reduce the effective work of tungsten electrode, make tungsten electrode work at a lower temperature, and improve the service life of tungsten electrode.
In order to reduce the harm of thorium to human body, rare earth elements have been tried to replace thorium. The common rare earth tungsten electrodes are cerium tungsten electrode, lanthanum tungsten electrode and yttrium tungsten electrode. Although there is no radiation, their monomer performance is still inferior to that of thorium tungsten electrode. For example, Cerium-Tungsten electrode has poor repetitive arc initiation performance, easy arc breaking, low arc pressure and allowable current, poor processing performance of lanthanum-tungsten electrode, serious burning loss in the process of using large current, difficult processing of yttrium-tungsten electrode, and poor arc stability when using small current.
In order to solve the performance disadvantage of the single rare earth tungsten electrode, people began to study new solutions. The final result is that the tungsten electrode containing multiple rare earth elements is made by adding multiple rare earth elements into the pure tungsten electrode. Compared with the core of the single rare earth tungsten electrode, the multielement rare earth tungsten electrode containing cerium oxide, lanthanum oxide, yttrium oxide and other rare earth elements is doped at the same time. It has better performance and no radiation hazard.
There are two kinds of surface of tungsten electrode, one is smooth surface, the other is polished surface. The ring surface has been cleaned by chemical agents, while the polished surface is processed into a uniform specification of tungsten alloy welding rods. The surface is polished and can be used in high temperature environment. Tungsten alloy welding rods have diameters ranging from 0.5 mm to 6.4 mm and lengths ranging from 75 mm to 610 mm. Argon is continuously ejected from the nozzle of the welding torch during welding, and the protective layer around the arc insulates the air to prevent the influence on tungsten alloy welding rods and pools, so as to obtain high quality welds.
