Steel Bond Hard Alloy

Steel bond hard alloy is a kind of hard alloy made from hard phase with hard metal (mainly TiC and WC) and bonded phase with steel. Steel bonded hard alloys have both hardness and wear resistance of carbides and good mechanical properties of steel. Therefore, it is mainly used as a wear-resistant part and a machine component. It is an ideal material for cold extrusion die.

Its microstructure is characterized by the uniform dispersion of fine hard phases in the matrix of steel. In the last century, steel bond hard alloy was successfully developed by American company and put into production.

Types of Steel Bond Hard Alloy

Classification According to The Material of Hard Phase
It can be divided into TiC base, TiN base, TiCN base, WC base and so on. At present, TiC based steel cemented carbide is still the main development. In foreign countries, TiC is the most used hard phase in actual production. As China is rich in tungsten resources, the development of TiC and WC in China are the same. With the development of research, newer hard phases have emerged, such as SiC, TiB2, NbC, VC, Al2O3, Cr2C3 and ZrO2.

Classification According to The Types of Matrix Steel
1, Carbon Steel or Chrome-Molybdenum Steel
It is composed of TIC or WC as the hard phase, with carbon steel or chrome molybdenum steel bonded phase sintering preparation. Chromium molybdenum alloy is one of the most widely used knot, which is mainly used as cold-punching mould, cold heading die, cold extruding die.

2, High Speed Steel
It is made up of TIC or WC as hard phase and sintered with high speed steel as bond phase, and its performance is better than that of high speed steel.

3, Austenitic Steel Cemented Carbide
It is made of TIC or WC as hard phase, which is made up of austenitic steel as bonded phase. This kind of alloy is mainly used for antioxidation, corrosion resistant hot extrusion die and so on.
