Slip casting is a forming method of powder, which has a long history. It is applied to the metallurgical process of tungsten carbide powder because it has low production cost and the it can complex shape products. The powder is first made into a suspension or a paste, and then into a plaster mold. Through the absorption of mold material to make suspension curing, green body is prepared with a certain shape.
Definition
Ceramic or metal powder is dispersed in liquid medium to make suspension liquid, so it has good fluidity. Then the suspension was injected into the cavity shape, through the absorption of mold material to make suspension curing, green is prepared with a certain shape. This is the slip casting forming method. In a simple way, it is a powder forming method in which the powder is made into a suspension or a paste, and then injected into a plaster mold.

Forming Characteristics
1, It can make powder metallurgy products with complex shapes and large parts.
2, Slip casting is suitable for pressing powder with poor performance, such as hard alloy mixture, refractory metal carbide, silicide and nitride powder. And it is almost suitable for all kinds of tungsten carbide.
3, The equipment is simple, and the production cost is low.
4, It has long production cycle and low production efficiency.
Development History
Slip casting is one of the oldest forming technology, as early as in the ceramic industry, nearly 200 years of history. In 1910, the method was applied to the forming of ceramic matrix composites. Subsequently, the slip casting process of carbides and nitrides, borides products were reported. In 1940, slip casting officially began to be used in the production of cemented carbide, tungsten crucible and titanium carbide, titanium nitride, zirconium nitride and other hard materials.
