Rare earth market update on March 13, 2025

The domestic rare earth market has generally maintained a sideways trend, with traders sticking to rigid transactions amid a relatively balanced supply-demand relationship and the complex and volatile global economic backdrop.

This has made it difficult for product prices to rise or fall significantly, while transaction volumes remain limited. Today, the prices of praseodymium oxide, gadolinium oxide, and dysprosium oxide are consolidating around 464,000 yuan/ton, 167,000 yuan/ton, and 1,720,000 yuan/ton, respectively.

From the supply side, the recovery of rare earth trade between China and Myanmar currently faces significant obstacles, leading to a reduction in China's rare earth ore imports. This has directly resulted in a relatively tight supply of raw material spot goods. Additionally, given the possibility of a slowdown in the growth rate of rare earth mining quotas in 2025, the market anticipates a tighter future supply, which, under the influence of supply-demand dynamics, provides support for price increases. On the demand side, as downstream rare earth industries exhibit promising development trends, the procurement demand for rare earths from some enterprises has increased to some extent, driving product prices upward. However, in the short term, this demand growth remains limited and has not yet fully altered the overall supply-demand structure of the market.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in February 2025, China's automobile production and sales reached 2.103 million and 2.129 million units, respectively, reflecting year-on-year increases of 39.6% and 34.4%. Among these, new energy vehicle (NEV) production and sales totaled 888,000 and 892,000 units, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 91.5% and 87.1%.
