Rare earth market update on february 13, 2025
The domestic rare earth market as a whole has shown a pattern of mixed rises and falls.
Following the significant price increases in recent days, suppliers' attitudes have perged: some are holding firm on their quotations, while others are more inclined to take profits. Meanwhile, downstream users continue to maintain purchases based on rigid demand. Today, the price of neodymium oxide increased by approximately RMB 2,000 per ton, praseodymium-neodymium oxide rose by about RMB 1,000 per ton, while terbium oxide decreased by around RMB 30 per kilogram, and dysprosium oxide dropped by about RMB 10,000 per ton.
On the supply side, factors such as ongoing environmental protection crackdowns, the current low prices of rare earth raw materials, and overall market demand falling short of expectations have constrained the production capacity of many rare earth manufacturers. On the demand side, while downstream users have shown increased interest in inquiries recently, the actual purchase volume still has significant room for growth. In the long term, the development of industries such as new energy vehicles, smart home appliances, and robotics is expected to drive demand for rare earth functional materials.
According to data from the Baotou Industry and Information Technology Bureau, among the eight rare earth products monitored in Baotou City, two saw price increases, one remained unchanged, and five experienced declines. Notably, lanthanum metal recorded the highest month-on-month decline, with an average price of RMB 21,611 per ton, down RMB 2,239 per ton from the previous month, a decrease of 9.4%. Year-on-year, lanthanum metal prices fell by RMB 3,389 per ton, a decline of 13.6%. Overall, one product saw a price increase, while seven products experienced price drops, with lanthanum metal showing the most significant year-on-year decline.
