Tungsten Carbide Cutting Tool Precautions

When using tungsten carbide cutting tools , operators should pay attention to some precautions as follows:
 
I. Tungsten carbide cutting tools are made from hard and brittle materials, therefore, diamond grinding wheel should be applied in the finish machining.
II. Due to its material characteristics of hardness and brittleness, the tungsten carbide cutting tool may break when suffering from great impact or clamp force.
III. Tungsten carbide has relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion, therefore, when produced into hot or cold external members, if there are significant differences between the operating temperature and design value, cracks may come into being.
IV. Tungsten carbide cutting tools must be kept in a dry place, because the cutting fluid or other kinds of fluid may corrode it and thus reduce its tool intensity.
V. During the copper brazing of tungsten carbide blades, if the copper brazing temperature is too high or too low, the blade may fall off or generate cracks.
VI. After the tungsten carbide cutting tool grinding, operators should check carefully whether there are cracks or not on the surface.
VII. After the electromachining of tungsten carbide cutting tools, operators should check whether there are cracks or not on the cutter surface, or it may have a bad influence on the cutter intensity. If necessary, the cracks can be eliminated through accurate grinding.

Tungsten Carbide Taper Reamer Introduction

The tungsten carbide taper reamer has three basic types; 1:50 taper reamer, 1:10 taper reamer and 1:30 taper reamer.
 
The standards of tungsten carbide taper reamers: GB4248-84,GB1136-84 and GB1137-84.
The tungsten carbide taper reamer is typically used in the reaming of dowel holes of the same taper, such dowel holes with taper of 1:50, 1:30 and 1:10.
Geometric angles of tungsten carbide taper reamers:
 
I. Tool cutting edge angle 
An angle of 15°is generally adopted in the machining of ductile materials like steel, while an angle between 3°~5°in fragile materials like cast iron. An angle of 45°is often adopted in roughing reaming and blind hole reaming, while an angle between 0.5°~1.5°in hand reamer reaming.
II. Anterior angle
There are usually small margin and thin chips during reaming. An anterior angle of 0° is often adopted for the convenience of manufacture, however, it can be 5°~10° when machining ductile materials in order to reduce chip deformation.
III. Clearance angle
The reamer is a type of finish machining tool, and in order to avoid great changes in radial dimension after regrinding, an angle between 5°~10° can be adopted.
IV. Tool cutting edge inclination 
The tool cutting edge inclination of reamer is normally 0°. It can contribute to a stable cutting process and improve hole quality.

Tungsten Carbide Boring Tool Usage

Special attention must be paid to tool cleanliness during the tungsten carbide boring tool installation. In every link of installation and fitting, the boring tool, whether used for roughing machining or finish machining, should be well cleaned.
 
Boring tools should be preset to well meet the requirements in dimensional accuracy and serviceable condition. The presetting can be done in a specialized presetter or other measurement instruments.
 
Dynamic pulse check should be done after boring tool installation. The dynamic pulse check is an aggregative indicator which reflects the precision of principal axis of machine tools, tool precision and the connection precision between tools and machine tools. If the precision is 1/2 or 2/3 higher than the required precision of the holes being processed, the machining should be stopped at once and reasons must be found out and solved before the machining being continued.
 
The service life of every part of a tungsten carbide boring tool should be confirmed through statistics or testing methods to ensure the reliability of machining precision.

Tungsten Carbide Cutting Tool Precautions

Tungsten carbide cutting tools may generate relatively high cutting temperature and much dust and aerosol when being used in machining. There will be much harm to health if our eyes or skins have direct contact with them, let alone inhaling them. Therefore, when using tungsten carbide cutting tools, operators should pay attention to the following matters:
 
I. Using local dust exhaust apparatuses, such as masks, gloves and so on.
II. Hands should be cleaned immediately once exposed to dust.
III. Do not have meals in the workplace.
IV. Using dust collectors or other washing methods to remove the dust on clothes instead of dusting oneself off by hand.
