Some experts used ammonium metatungstate as raw material to prepare WO3 electrochromic film by a relatively simple wet chemical method. For the amorphous and crystalline films formed by heat treatment at different temperatures, the structure and optical constants of the prepared WO3 films during electrochromic process were studied by ellipsometry. The results show that tungsten trioxide film prepared by using ammonium metatungstate as raw material exhibits better electrochromic properties. The amorphous and crystalline WO3 films exhibit very different optical evolution during the coloring process. And the electrochromic mechanism of amorphous and crystalline WO3 films conforms to the small-pole absorption model and the re-doped semiconductor-free Drude free electron absorption model, respectively.
