AMT Applied for Energy-saving Smart Glass

AMT, short for ammonium metatungstate, is one of the important raw materials for obtaining building energy-saving smart glass – a type of electrochromic glass. For example, some experts used ammonium metatungstate as raw material to prepare WO3 electrochromic film, and they tested the electrochromic properties of prepared WO3 film in the three-electrode system, using 0.5M H2SO4 solution as electrolyte by applying 1.5V voltage. The electrochromic performance of WO3 film heat treated at different temperatures is shown in the figure below.

From the figure, we can find that the tungsten trioxide thin film prepared using AMT as raw martial has good electrochromic properties. The visible light transmittance of the transparent tungsten trioxide film is close to 80%. While when the film turns blue after coloring, the visible light transmittance drops to about 60%. Under the test conditions, the sample prepared by heat treatment at 350 °C had the largest light modulation amplitude of 21.12%. According to reports, the amplitude of the light modulation is not large. Experts speculate that this may be related to the thin film thickness.
