Rare earth market update on August 14, 2025

The price trends of mainstream light and heavy rare earth products in China show pergence: praseodymium-neodymium prices continue to rise, while dysprosium-terbium prices decline.

Today, praseodymium-neodymium oxide prices increased by approximately 1,000 yuan per ton, and praseodymium-neodymium metal prices rose by about 2,000 yuan per ton; terbium oxide prices decreased by around 40 yuan per kilogram, and dysprosium-iron alloy prices dropped by approximately 10,000 yuan per ton.

In the light rare earth market, heightened inquiry and procurement enthusiasm from magnetic material enterprises, coupled with optimistic future expectations, have significantly boosted suppliers' confidence in tentatively raising prices. Notably, driven by the recent rise in praseodymium-neodymium raw material prices, the prices of rare earth permanent magnet materials and their scraps have also seen slight increases. In the medium-heavy rare earth market, the overall trend is one of sluggish consolidation, with downstream demand falling short of expectations and limited market liquidity leading to insufficient confidence among holders in maintaining prices. However, influenced by strong production cost support and limited imports of medium-heavy rare earth products in China, the price reduction range remains small.

In terms of news, in July 2025, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 1.243 million and 1.262 million units, respectively, increased by 26.3% and 27.4% year-on-year, with new energy vehicle sales accounting for 48.7% of total new vehicle sales. From January to July 2025, total vehicle production and sales reached 18.235 million and 18.269 million units, respectively, increased by 12.7% and 12% year-on-year; within this, new energy vehicle production and sales were 8.232 million and 8.22 million units, respectively, increased by 39.2% and 38.5% year-on-year, with new energy vehicle sales making up 45% of total new vehicle sales.
