Tungsten trioxide can be used to prepare electrochromic film and therefore be applied in the production of electrochromic device. The prepared nano film is the core of an electrochromic device with a "sandwich" structure. Tungsten trioxide nano powder is a representative of inorganic electrochromic materials, which has been studied most and has been commercialized as it has the advantages of high coloring efficiency, high chemical stability, large light modulation range and good electrochemical reversibility.

Here, the term "electrochromism" refers to a phenomenon in which the optical properties of the material are stably and reversibly changed when a voltage is applied to the material. An electrochromic device refers to a device that can obtain different transmittance states by applying different voltages within a certain voltage range. The device has a color memory effect. Also, it can maintain a transmittance state when a voltage is applied under an open circuit condition.
