Chinese Rare Earth Prices - August 25, 2023

This week, Chinese rare earth prices exhibited a pattern of significant rise followed by narrow-range fluctuations. This trend can be attributed to the active inquiry and procurement by downstream users at the beginning of the week.

However, as the week progressed and prices rose, the pace of demand growth began to slow down. This week, the highest prices for praseodymium-neodymium oxide, terbium oxide, and holmium oxide reached CNY 510,000 per ton, CNY 8,200 per kilogram, and CNY 615,000 per ton, respectively.

According to information from China Tungsten Online, this week's prices for praseodymium-neodymium oxide increased by around CNY 17,000 per ton compared to the previous week, indicating a growth of 3.56%. The price for praseodymium-neodymium metal rose by approximately CNY 20,000 per ton, reflecting a rise of 3.39%. Terbium oxide prices increased by around CNY 720 per kilogram, marking a growth of 9.89%. Dysprosium oxide prices saw an increase of about CNY 100,000 per ton, representing a rise of 4.24%. The price for 55N neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) ingot remained stable, while the price for neodymium-iron-boron waste (praseodymium-neodymium) increased by around CNY 20 per kilogram, showing a growth of 3.96%.

From the supply perspective, although current rare earth raw material supply remains relatively ample, the increasing level of centralized management of rare earth resources is enhancing suppliers' ability to control prices in the future. From the demand side, compared to the first half of the year, the second half has seen higher operating rates for magnetic materials enterprises. Moreover, due to lower raw material inventories and recent upward fluctuations in rare earth raw material prices, market demand has increased.
