China’s APT Price Stabilizes in Early June with Rare Deals Concluded

China’s ammonium paratungstate (APT) and tungsten powder prices continue to be weak on June 8, 2022 as the demand fails to meet market expectation and the new guide prices from listed tungsten companies also decline, which weakens market confidence. However, market price is not likely to decline sharply in the short term under the background of global inflation and economic recovery after the COVID-19. 

In the tungsten concentrate market, the price stalemated at about $16,923.1/ton with the support of relative tight supply and high cost. As the trading activity is low, market supply and demand are in a stalemate and traders have different views towards the outlook, some traders still are reluctant to sell while others consider profit-taking. 

The APT price stands at about $295.5/mtu with rare deals concluded. There are still uncertainties and risks in the epidemic and local conflicts in the world, thus manufacturers are cautious in receiving new orders. The short-term market is expected to be stable. 

For the tungsten powder market, market price fell below $40.0/kg. Although the retaliatory shipment peak after the epidemic situation improves and manufacturing-related incentive policies are good for the recovery of market demand, due to the recent weakness in cobalt prices and the pressure on shipping capacity, there is limited room for improvement in market consumption. The powder market is still weak as a whole.
