Inner Mongolia Finds 4 Sites of Tungsten, Molybdenum, Iron and Copper Deposits

Four sites of tungsten, molybdenum, iron and copper minerals were discovered in Inner Mongolia. According to the Geological Survey Institute of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, recently, the Shenyang Geological Survey Center organized experts carried out the field acceptance of the “Inner Mongolia 1:50,000 Baiyin Obo, Xinglongdi, and BeigangTai Regional Geological Survey" project. The project discovered 4 iron, copper, tungsten and molybdenum mineralization points, identified 1 iron, copper, tungsten and molybdenum mineralization alteration zone, and delineated 2 prospecting target areas.

The Inner Mongolia region has a wide variety of mineral resources and it is the province where the newest minerals have been discovered in domestic. As of the end of 2019, the region had the highest reserves of 20 species in the country, 45 species in the top 3 in China, and 95 species in the top 10 in our country. The reserves of rare earth resources ranked first in the world, and the Obo Mine is the largest rare earth mine in the world presently. The mining industry plays an important role in Inner Mongolia's economy.

This project is the first round completed since the reform of the basic geological survey project. The mapping scientist is responsible for the guidance of the earth system science theory, oriented to the construction of ecological civilization, oriented to the management of natural resources, and is based on the route geological survey and geological profile measurement.

Combined with the latest regional geological survey results, the influence and manifestation of the eastern section of the Suolun-Linxi suture zone have been discussed. Through shallow drilling results, the material composition, stratigraphic structure and neotectonic movement of the loose deposits in key areas on the western edge of the Horqin Sandy Land were identified, and the characteristics of environmental evolution and ecological landscape changes were discussed.

The research strengthens the collection of mineralization and alteration information on the surface, and discovers four iron, copper, tungsten and molybdenum mineralization sites. The discovery will help Inner Mongolia to strengthen its mining industry.
