Exploring New Directions for Rare Earths Applications

Exploring new directions for rare earths applications. Recently, Baotou Research Institute of Rare Earths has built an industrial trial line with an annual output of 300 tons of hydrogen storage alloy materials, using a 200Kg intermediate frequency induction process and 300 Kg intermediate frequency induction furnace process to develop the alloy products respectively.

Baotou Research Institute of Rare Earths has continuously strengthened international cooperation with Sweden, France, Germany, Russia, Slovenia, Japan, India, and other countries for exploring new directions for rare earths applications. The institute has carried out a number of international cooperation projects in the fields of hydrogen storage, magnetic materials, magnetostriction, magnetic refrigeration, rare earth beneficiation, etc. At the same time, through exchanges between the two parties and holding international seminars, etc., the international influence in the field of rare earth materials research and application has been greatly enhanced force.

The development of highly efficient, zero-emission hydrogen energy technology is a major global strategic demand in the 21st century. The current large-scale application of rare earth hydrogen storage alloys is an important material for the development of hydrogen energy technology.

Basic research is a crucial theoretical support for applied research. By carrying out basic research work, the Sino-Russian research team built a thermodynamic phase diagram database of the H-contained La-Y-Ni system. It provides a scientific basis and theoretical guidance for the efficient development of La-Y-Ni series hydrogen storage alloy materials. Europe is the world's leader in the research of the commercial application of magnetic refrigeration. The institute has continuously communicated and strengthened cooperation in related fields.
