Invercargill's Warren Parry went within a leg of one of the biggest moments of his darts career at the Sydney Masters on Thursday night.

The multiple national champion, and a three-time competitor at the world championships, proved almost unbreakable against naturalised Australian, and world No 19, Paul Nicholson in the opening match of the Professional Darts Corporation event at Sydney's Luna Park.

Nicholson, who was scheduled to take on world champion Phil Taylor in last night's quarter-final, said playing first up had been tough for both competitors.

"I did feel a bit of pressure but I'm very relieved that I managed to get over the winning line in the end," he said.

"It was a very nervy game and we were both very aware of being first up on that stage. I'm still a bit low on confidence and I'm working hard on my game, but it was great to have some good support from the crowd and a few friends out there too - and I'm glad that I get another opportunity now to prove myself in the quarter-finals."

The Masters finishes tonight.

The AGM of the North Witchford Darts League will take place at 8pm on Monday (September 9) at the Sportsman, Chatteris.

All teams should be represented and new teams can also contact the league secretary, Mark Cross on 07790 845456.

Entries are welcomed from teams who wish to participate in a darts league covering March, Chatteris and the surrounding villages.

Blantrye — THE Zimbabwe Junior Zone VI darts team yesterday had an opportunity to feel the holes when they held their first practice matches since arriving in Blantyre, Malawi for the regional competition. The team is looking forward to start on a promising note at the fourth edition of the Zone VI darts Championships and national team captain Victor Dlakama has called on his teammates believe in themselves.

"We have some good teams and we practiced a lot for this event and we are looking forward to winning medals," Dlakama said.

"The team is well prepared and we had an opportunity to have a feel of the holes, which helped us familiarise with them."

Every amateur darts player dreams of playing against or alongside the biggest names in the sport... and now you can.

An exhibition tournament featuring Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Raymond van Barneveld and James Wade is coming to Crawley on October 19.

The Crawley News has teamed up with event promoter Modus Sports to run two competitions for our readers.

As well as the main tournament, held at the K2 leisure centre, there will be a pairs match featuring darts legends Andy "The Viking" Fordham and "the King Of Darts" Bobby George.

Each of them needs a playing partner and two lucky readers will be chosen.They will each get their own walk on music so they feel like a proper darts star.

The second competition is to find women to accompany the players into the arena for the tournament.

The prize is as stated and no alternatives will be offered.The winners will be chosen at random by the Crawley News after the closing date.The winners will be required to attend the K2 Crawley Masters on October 19 and they will be contacted by phone within seven days of the closing date.

The PDC are delighted to announce that the Sydney Darts Masters, the second event in the World Series of Darts, will be held at Luna Park in Sydney from August 29-31 and broadcast live on Fox Sports.

Following the success of the recent Dubai Duty Free Darts Masters, which was won by Michael
van Gerwen, the second event in the PDC's new World Series of Darts has been confirmed.

The 16-player event will see the PDC's top eight stars joined by the top three players from
the DPA rankings, a trio of home qualifiers from a three-day qualifying event, Australian World Cup ace Paul Nicholson and a New Zealand qualifier.

The eight First Round games will be played at Sydney’s iconic Luna Park on Thursday August
29, with the Quarter-Finals on Friday August 30 and the Semi-Finals and Final being held on
Saturday August 31.

Basic exercise instructions for darts,as follow:

1.Lie on your stomach, with legs together and straight behind you, and arms along your sides
with palms up.

2.Engage your abdominal muscles, lifting your belly up toward your spine. Glutes (butt muscles) and legs must support the move as well. Inhale.

3.Exhale: Your neck lengthens, your spine lengthens and you send so much energy out the top of
your head that your upper body lifts slightly off the mat. Your neck is an extension of your spine, so don't crease it to look up. Reach your arms behind you in a superman pose.

4.Inhale: Hold the lift a few moments. Belly lifted.

5.Exhale: Lengthen down to the mat

6.Repeat three times.
