Rare Earth Market Update - March 3, 2025

Rare earth market update on March 3, 2025

At the beginning of the week, the overall domestic rare earth market was generally in a favorable situation.

Under the influence of many uncertain factors, the price trends of light and heavy rare earth products were slightly different: the prices of praseodymium and neodymium fell from a high level, while the prices of dysprosium and terbium moved forward steadily. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide and praseodymium-neodymium metal dropped by about 6,000 yuan/ton and 5,000 yuan/ton respectively, and the price of terbium oxide rose by about 200 yuan/kg.

In the light rare earth market, since returning from the Spring Festival holiday, the price of praseodymium-neodymium products has risen significantly, which is one of the reasons why suppliers have been less motivated to raise their quotations recently. Coupled with the slow follow-up of downstream demand, it becomes even more difficult for product prices to keep rising. In the medium and heavy rare earth market, due to the basic rigid-demand purchases of end-customers and the limited import volume of Myanmar ore, many holders are reluctant to sell and have a strong bullish sentiment.

According to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, from 2021 to 2024, the bureau carried out exploration work on strategic minerals such as tungsten, rare earth, aluminum, manganese, tin, antimony, zirconium, nickel, fluorite, and other minerals urgently needed by industries such as quartz sand and calcium carbonate, and this exploration work led to significant achievements in Guangxi's special exploration projects. By the end of 2024, a total of 14 large and medium-sized deposits of strategic minerals such as rare earth, bauxite, manganese ore, fluorite, and tin had been discovered.
