Taylor's dominance of the PDC's World Series of Darts events in Australia continued as he followed up last week's second successive Perth Darts Masters triumph with his third straight win in Sydney.

The victory extends his winning streak in Australia to 20 matches since 2013, and another historic night for the 16-time World Champion also saw him hit the first televised nine-darter in the country.

Taylor's perfect leg during his 10-7 semi-final win over Wright was the first since the PDC's World Series of Darts was introduced two years ago and his 11th in a televised contest as he secured another slice of glory to add to his glittering roll of honor.

While players on Australia's domestic circuit, including Kyle Anderson, have achieved nine-dart finishes previously, Taylor's minute of brilliance was the first on TV in the country as he delighted the Qantas Credit Union Arena crowd.

The nine-darter also came as Taylor booked his place in the final of the Sydney Darts Masters, seeing off Wright in fine style to remain on course for a third successive title.

He then stormed past Stoke rival Lewis with an imperious showing in the final to lift the trophy for a third straight year in Sydney, dropping only three legs a he took the title.

"I'm over the moon to have won this again," said Taylor. "I love it in Sydney and I'm a very proud man, and a very lucky man, to be a part of this event.

"The nine-darter was great and a very special moment for me. It's a wonderful achievement and I'm always proud to hit a nine-darter – but I've also got to remember that it's just one leg and it didn’t win me the match.

"Peter came back at me after that so I couldn't celebrate for too long, but it's great to have hit another nine-dart finish, especially for it to be the first on TV in Australia.

"I can't wait for Auckland next week now because I'm in love with every minute of it at the moment."

Taylor added: "Adrian didn't perform like he can do in the final, but I think his semi-final took a lot out of him. It's more experience for him and he'll be in a lot more finals in years to come.

"His 167 in the semi-final was absolutely brilliant and it won him the game. It was as good as Peter Wright's 141 against Michael van Gerwen to win the semi-final in Japan but it took a lot out of him."

Although Taylor took the final's opening leg in 13 darts, Lewis landed a 171 score which was followed in leg two with a 180 as he leveled with an 11-dart finish.

That, though, was as good as it got for Lewis as Taylor hit maximums in the next two legs to move 3-1 up, finished 92 in leg five and defied 180s from the world number five in successive legs to move 6-1 up.

Taylor then punished misses from Lewis as he took his streak to seven straight legs as he moved 8-1 up, with the two-time World Champion hitting a fourth 180 before finally hitting back, on double eight.

A 96 checkout from Taylor was followed by a maximum in leg 12 as Lewis posted double six to pull back to 9-3, but a miss at double 18 was punished by the 55-year-old on double two as he moved to the brink of a victory which was sealed in style with another maximum and a 97 checkout.

"After the previous three rounds, where every game went the full distance, when it came to the final I was trying to push and push but I had nothing else to give," said Lewis.

"Playing Barney in the semis took a lot out of me, and the harder I tried the worse I got, and Phil took full advantage. I've said it before and I'll say it again; there'll never be another Phil Taylor."

Perhaps the only nervous moments for Taylor on the night came at the start of his semi-final, when Wright finished 62 to break and then landed double two to move 2-0 up in a fine opening to the clash.

Pitsford Water, Northamptonshire
The rise in temperature this week along with the warming water has made the bank fishing more challenging. However, the rod average for the week is 2.7 and there have been some notable catches. Phil Jordan has had several good days from the bank using Diawl Bachs. He returned 20 fish in three sessions. Rick Barlow has returned 34 fish and taken a rainbow at 4lb 3oz. The best bank areas have been the Cliffs, Sermans and the north shore. Boat anglers are finding fish in the Boills and Main Basin. Fish are still high in the water and feeding on the large daphnia clouds in the main basin. Ravensthorpe Reservoir, Northamptonshire
Anglers continue to enjoy good sport despite difficult weather and water conditions. Bank fishing has been hard, with anglers taking a few fish from the dam. Boat anglers are having most success by drifting across the main basin with dry fly and emerger tactics as top of the water sport continues. K. Harney returned 20 fish, as did Paul and Dave Newham on dry fly tactics. Fraser Duffy Senior and Fraser Duffy Junior and Mick Clark caught well on dries and emergers. Mary Harkin, from Dublin, fished Foam Daddies to net over 30 fish during a two session visit, with partner Pete Matthison also enjoying good sport on similar tactics. Trevor Hall landed the best fish of the week, a fine rainbow of 8lb 14oz which took a Red/Black Crisp Packet Buzzer fished washing-line style near the Boils. Congratulations go to Ray Edgely who, at 87 years old, caught three rainbows on dry flies. Ray has now been fishing Ravensthorpe for over 50 years.

Rutland Water, Rutland
The biggest fish of the week fell to Morpeth (Northumberland) angler Paul Smith who tempted a 5lb 12oz rainbow from the South Arm. This fish had been feeding on large snails. A large red dry fly was the successful pattern. Prior to this rainbow Paul hooked and lost a very large brown. He fished both shallows of each arm on his visit, managing over 20 fish in total. Season ticket holder Keith Jones took a number of quality fish up to 5lb last Friday from both arms. The majority of boat anglers have fished the Sailing Club down through to the dam with rainbows averaging over 2lb reported. The most popular tactic is broadside drifting with lures and nymphs and rudder anglers with tube flies with fish feeding on daphnia. By the end of the week the aerators started to produce plenty of fish with various lures fished on sinking lines coupled with a variable stop-start retrieve working. The rod average at Rutland has been 3.37 for the week. The few anglers who ventured out onto the banks took fish from the North Arm shallows and the Normanton bank from the east side of Normanton Church through to the blue pipes down to Fantasy Island.

The Anglian Water Rudder Match on August 8 was won by Dave Porter and Steve Crowder with 14 fish for 27lb 4oz; second Martin Hearth and Jim Watts with five fish for 8lb 11oz; third Rob Teasdale and Mick Connor with three fish for 5lb 13oz; fourth Jeff Bedford and Matt Bedford with two fish for 4lb 3oz; and fifth Mick Bennett and Ian Dolby, one fish for 2lb.
Week 11 of the Tuesday Night Boat League was won by Keith Jones with eight fish for 14lb 11oz; second Richard Cooper with eight fish for 13lb 13oz and third Mick Bennett with five fish for 8lb 9oz. It’s now level pegging at the top of the league with Keith Jones and Richard Cooper on 63 points apiece. Officially there are just two weeks of the league remaining, but it is proving so popular that a couple more weeks may be added, more information to follow. In the meantime, please note that from this week the start time has been brought forward to 5.30pm.

Rutland Water Fly Fishers and Anglian Water are hosting an open weekend at the Fishing Lodge on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August, 10am to 5pm. There will be a chance to talk to the experts, try fly-tying, fly casting and fly fishing from a boat (taster session - limited availability).

Scaling Dam Reservoir, Cleveland
Apart from the odd gusty day it’s been quite a pleasant week with some great catches recorded by bait anglers in various locations around the reservoir. Fly anglers working along the south shore and east bay areas have also had good results, especially those who regularly changed fly. Bruce Hodgson, from Brotton, fished the east end with legered blue mango Power Bait and caught his eight fish limit. Jake Dale, from Stokesley, also fished the east end and caught his 10 fish Loyalty Day limit on green and yellow PowerBait and worm. Fly angler Mark Hammond, from Redcar, returned five and Tommy Johns, from Brotton, returned 10 rainbows including two between 4-5lb. The two biggest rainbows of the week weighing 5lb each were both landed on fly, one of three caught by Brian Lees from South Bank and one of four caught and two returned by Anthony Southworth, from Middlesbrough.  Best flies are Silver Invicta, Hoppers, Kate McLaren and Viva. Best areas are both ends of the dam wall, and south shore.

Thornwood Springs Fly Fishery, Essex
Lake two has produced some very good fishing on some days. Over a three-day period lots of rising rainbows could be seen in the rippled areas and some big browns were seen hunting in the margins after the fry. Lake two today (Friday) saw some fantastic surface action for Lee Bartlett catch up until lunch included an 11lb grown-on rainbow. Rainbows are taking CdC dry flies, with Damsels, Montana, Buzzers and Shipman’s Buzzer also scoring. Early mornings and into the evenings usually witness a good rise. Lake one is about to be de-weeded and will change to brown trout only with a beginner’s pool as well.

Toft Newton Trout Fishery, Lincolnshire
For the week-ending August 7 the 100 anglers caught 341 trout for a rod average of 3.41. A very respectable rod average for the time of year, possibly helped along by airborne terrestrials being in abundance thanks to the harvesting in surrounding fields. Fish have been very happy to feed on or near the surface, even during spells of bright weather. Patterns with some orange or fiery brown in them have done well and the popular Shipman’s is proving ever reliable. Both boat and bank anglers found a few fish with the boats edging the best of the sport. Bank anglers are advised to keep on the move, particularly if takes and offers dry up a little. The water is still clear and the weed is just starting to drop back a little. Dries will continue to produce as really will most methods on the right day. It's also worth keeping an eye out for a few early fry feeders. A few good fish out this week with plenty around 4 to 5lb. Jason James, from Alford, Lincs, managed a nicely conditioned 5lb 2oz rainbow on a dry fly.

Grafham Water, Cambridgeshire
Grafham has continued to fish well for both bank and boat anglers with a good summer’s rod average of 3.55 and a lot of fish coming in at more than 3lb. The best rainbow at 6lb was taken by Charles Williams. The dam has been the most productive area for bank anglers with Shrimp patterns, GRHE, PTNs and Crunchers fished close to the margin. However, when the winds have been favourable, Deep Water and Pylon Points have also produced consistent fishing. Boat anglers have enjoyed a good week’s sport with the south dam, G,I,N and B Buoys, Savages Creek, Gaynes Cove, Deep Water and Pylon Points, Seat and central drifts through the middle all producing good consistent fishing. Best boat methods have been to fish mainly on medium to fast sink lines with lures and nymphs.
The Scierra Pairs match on August 2 saw 14 pairs catch 127 fish for a great match rod average of 4.53. The top pair was Mark Haycock and Julian Hubbard with 16 trout for 46lb 10oz. They fished gold and silver tubes on a Di-8 line drifting from the middle of the reservoir to G Buoy/Marlow Bay. The heaviest rainbow of the match at 4lb 10oz was caught by Rob Edmunds/Kieron Bonas who finished second with 16 fish for 41lb 3oz. This fish was also taken on a gold and silver tube from I Buoy.
Third were Ian Watts and Baz Reece with 13 fish for 28lb 15oz and fourth Andy Cooper and Phil Green with 14 fish for 26lb 1oz.
The winner of this week’s Invicta Tuesday Night Boat League was season ticket holder Graham Bodsworth who caught and released six trout from the south dam on a floating line with Diawl Bachs and Crunchers. Sharing second place were Alan Briggs and Keith Gilchrist each with three fish.

Grassholme Reservoir, Co Durham
Bright sunshine and gales made for some testing days. However, a rod average of almost three fish per angler for the week during the summer months remains respectable as the cool weather kept fish active and feeding well. Tuesday brought rain and a cold wind and Mr W.J. Currie caught 10 fish on his Loyalty Day close to the Witch’s Hat. Anglers willing to roam the banks this week have had the most success. As water temperatures rise fish are heading to the deeper water and some of the lesser fished spots like Pebble Beach and Brock Scar have produced great catches. Changing methods have also helped during these difficult conditions with many people catching best late afternoon whilst spinning using small lures and Toby spinners. Derek and his friend took home 12 fish between them. There’s been some good fly hatches early evening with surface-feeding fish taking well presented dries. That said, with flat calm water these fish are very easily spooked so fishing on the move has been key. Best flies are Dawson’s Olive, Black/Orange Hopper, and Bibio.

Hanningfield Reservoir, Essex
A vast improvement in weather conditions as last week’s strong winds gave way to calmer, sunny days. This produced plenty of action around the inlet, where moving cooler water and added oxygen attracted high numbers of the larger rainbows. Nikolai Nikolov caught the largest trout of the season weighing 8lb 10oz using Garlic PowerBait Eggs. Other notable specimens of 7lb 14oz fell to David Fuegi who was spinning and Mr. R. Dignam who took an 8lb 4oz fish. A good number of rainbows over 7lb have also been recorded from the Bubble Lines where sinking lines and large lures have improved catches. Richard Smart netted an 8lb 8oz rainbow on Sunday. Bank anglers on the Peninsula have reported better results from amongst the weeded areas using PowerBait. As water levels are still falling fast we remind visitors using boats that Atlantis is very shallow and should be avoided as there is a risk of grounding the boat. Best flies: Buzzers are Montana, Damsel, and Orange FM. Best bank areas are the Peninsula, dam wall and inlet wall. Boats doing well at the Goldfish Bowl, inlet, inlet dam wall, and Bubbles Lines when running.

Hury Reservoir, Co Durham
The waters of Hury were clashed with winds one minute to be followed by bright sunshine the next and neither being good conditions for fly fishing. However, there were some good catches to note including Malcolm Gowland who took 10 fish on Wednesday on his Loyalty Day on Reedy Bank. John Currie and George Wind landed eight and seven fish respectively. The west end of the reservoir at the boil and Newhouse Bay produced some excellent evening sport with fish surface feeding on small black dries. As summer water temperatures climb fish are shoaling around Low New House taking advantage of the higher oxygen released from the boil giving anglers excellent chances to catch good numbers of fish. Best flies are Dawson’s Olive, Brown Daddy, Coral Dancer, Buzzers, Bibio and Black Popper Hopper. Best areas are the boil, Newhouse Bay and both banks from the dam wall.

Kielder Water, Northumberland
Gordon Scott, from Newcastleton, fished the South Abutment area and in less than an hour he had landed his eight fish limit, then purchased another permit and promptly caught another eight rainbows! Boat angler Joe Thomas caught fish of 3lb 4oz and 3lb 7oz on a Daddy Longlegs off the field at Needs Hill. Other anglers have recorded limits with dry flies taking front stage as the fish look to the surface to feed. Bait anglers have also caught well with worm and Red Power Bait Eggs one of the most successful combinations. On Sunday Lee Hollings and his son fished for the first time at Hawkhope Slipway. Aidan aged six, landed a 4lb 11oz fish, the largest of the week, using a bunch of worms fished below a bubble float. Best flies are Pearl Blob, Black and Peacock Spider, Green Montana, and Orange Blob. Best boat areas are Mirage, Belling Inlet, and Whickhope. Best banks are Merlin Brae, Matthews Linn, and Little Whickhope.

Bewl Water, Kent
After a weekend of very good fishing with some catch and release anglers catching up to 14 trout, the last two or three days have been more challenging as the water has colored with brown algae and it is difficult to judge the depth of the fish. Rod average for the week was 2.56 - good for mid August. Best areas for boats are the main bowl and Hook Straight. Best areas for bank fishing are the dam wall and Chingley. Successful flies are Boobies, Blobs, Cormorants, Minkies and Tadpoles. Due to low oxygen levels in the water, catch and release has been temporarily suspended.

Blackdyke Trout Fishery, Norfolk
The smaller the better this week as far as patterns are concerned. Jeff Wilkinson had a great day here on Saturday, fishing size 14-16 olive nymphs sparsely dressed under an indicator three foot down on a floating line. He managed to catch and release 12 with several browns. A Lot of fishes still around the margins with the aerators be the hotspots on the lake.

Chatton Trout Fishery, Northumberland
All three lakes are fishing well with various dries, Buzzers, Diawl Bachs and small lures taking fish. Jim Tuck, from Ashington, caught 18 fish on a Chatton Chaser. Peter Davison, from New Hartley, caught 15 fish on Blobs and dries. Matty Divine, from Hadston, caught 18 fish, best at 12lb 12oz, on Diawl Bachs and Damsels. Keith Laidler, from Chester le Street, enjoyed his free day’s fishing on a full loyalty card landing 10 fish, best at 7lb 8oz and 7lb. All were caught on a Shipman’s. Trevor Wadds, from Craster, caught nine fish on Zonkers and Buzzers. John Maguire, from Houghton le Spring, caught 10 fish on olives, Spiders and Bloodworms. Lee Cartmail, from Middlesbrough, caught 18 fish on Zonkers. Colin Harris, from Whickham, caught 18 on various dries. Other good catches went to David Brown, from Bedlington, with a 6lb 8oz rainbow caught from Ross Lake on a Sedge. Fishery regular Alec Fish caught a 4lb 10oz rainbow on a Diawl Bach from Chatton Lake. Ten-year-old Rinn Reekie, from Fife, on his first visit to Chatton landed a 3lb 10oz rainbow from Ross Lake. Mark Straughen from the Norham and Ladykirk Angling Association included rainbows of 6lb 8oz and 5lb in a total bag weight 16lb.

Derwent Reservoir, Northumberland
Sport continued to be good this week, especially earlier in the week when cloudy, cool conditions brought fish close to the margins. Tuesday saw athletics legends Steve Cram and Daley Thompson take 12 fish between them on Power Bait and spinners. We had 24 catch limits in the first three days of the week with Mr. K. Maxwell and Mr. M. Osbourne taking eight fish limits well over 16lb. The catch of the week went to Mr. Fenny who had over 20lb on Wednesday including some nice three-pounds The weekend was slightly less productive as the bright sunshine and rise in temperatures pushed fish out into the depths. However, some good catches were still recorded early and late in the day as fish moved back into the margins during these periods. Fly anglers using dries and wets just under the surface recorded the best catches with some outstanding rises on many evenings.

Fontburn Reservoir, Northumberland
A week of settled weather resulted in some good sport on favour, cooler days. Minnows shoaling on all banks resulted in feeding trout showing in all areas as they gorge on the abundance of fry. Anglers using a spinner/float or a levered bait did not have to cast very far as the feeding trout were extremely close to the margins. There were some excellent catches recorded throughout and Mr. A. Olsen netted eight pristine rainbows for 23lb. He was closely followed by Mr. J.B. Wilson who caught eight superb rainbows for 20lb 8oz including the biggest fish of the week at 3lb 8oz. Mr. R. Marshall was delighted with his eight fish catch limit total 20lb 6oz and this was just a few of the recorded eight fish catch limits. Fly anglers continued to reap the rewards of traveling light and covering a lot more bank, especially on an evening when there are frequent hatches. Best flies are Hawthorn, Dawson’s Olive, Black Gnat, Bibio and Cat’s Whisker. Top tip for anglers wanting to spin for trout is to find a quiet piece of bank and cast your spinner adjacent to the bank about 10 to 15 feet from the margins. Best areas are north shore middle section and dam wall on an evening with all areas fishing well.

Dutch pair Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld will meet in a tasty quarter-final contest after they both won through on Thursday.

World number one van Gerwen defeated Paul Nicholson 6-2, taking command by winning three of the opening four legs, with scores of 180 and 171 at the right times helping him into the lead.

Nicholson responded on double ten, but missed one dart to level in the sixth as he was unable to land double 16 to complete a 106 finish, allowing van Gerwen back in on double one.

He then took out a 13-darter to move to the brink of victory, which was sealed as he took out 70 on double eight.

"I lost in the first round here last year and I didn't want to do that again, so I'm happy to get the win," said van Gerwen. "Paul's a fantastic player but I wanted to perform and I played okay tonight.

"I want to show more in the next game because I feel confident and I can't wait to play against Raymond again."

Van Barneveld, meanwhile, overcame his Sydney blues to pick up his maiden victory in three attempts in the tournament with a 6-3 defeat of New Zealand's debutant Cody Harris.

Van Barneveld had lost out in the first round in the past two years, to Clinton Bridge and Kyle Anderson respectively, but held off a late rally from the DPA Qualifier to seal his last eight spot.

The Dutchman won the game's opening four legs without reply, breaking in the first and third, landing a 180 in a 14-darter in the second and tops to establish command.
Harris hit back on tops, and after van Barneveld posted another 180 in the next, the 29-year-old newcomer took out double ten and tops to pull back to 5-3 - but the five-time World Champion swiftly ended his hopes by finishing 82 on double 16.

"It is a relief for me because I've never won in Sydney before," admitted van Barneveld. "It's hard when you don't know your opponent and Cody could have come back at me, so I had to keep my focus and I got there in the end."

James Wade knocked out New Zealand's Craig Caldwell with a 6-2 triumph as the Perth Darts Masters runner-up began his campaign in Sydney with a solid victory.

Wade finished tops and double 16 to win the first two legs, and landed a 180 as he moved three legs up before the DPNZ Qualifier took out 70 on the bull to hit back.

The left-hander then landed double eight and double five to move a leg away from the win, with the New Zealander finishing 64 to hit back before trading 180s with Wade in the next, but it was the world number six who claimed the leg, and victory, with double ten.

"I've heard a lot of good things about Craig and he's shown in the last couple of weeks that he can play darts, so I'm happy and I can move onwards from here," said Wade.

"It would be great to go all the way this week but these are the eight best players in the world so you have to play well. I'm excited, I'm enjoying my darts, I'm privileged to be here in Sydney and I'm looking forward to playing at the moment."

Peter Wright set up a quarter-final against Wade with his 6-3 win over Loz Ryder, the DPA Australian Grand Prix number one.

Despite a 180 from Wright in the opening leg, Ryder finished 76 to move ahead, only to see the Japan Darts Masters runner-up take out a superb 139 finish to level before breaking on double four in the next to move 2-1 up.

Wright also hit tops to move two clear before Ryder hit back on double eight, with a 104 finish edging the world number four 4-2 up only for a 13-darter to see the deficit hard.

Tops, though, restored Wright's cushion before he hit the same bed in the next to seal the win.

"It was a bit nerve-wracking because Loz is Australia's number one at the moment and he's improved since last year, so there was a lot of pressure on me," said Wright.

"I was a bit shaky in Perth last week but it's good to get this win."

Friday's quarter-finals will be followed by the semi-finals and final in one session on Saturday night before the 2015 Coral Sydney Darts Masters champion is crowned at the Qantas Credit Union Arena.

Two-time World Champion Lewis had looked set to suffer a first round exit at the Qantas Credit Union Arena when he fell 4-1 down to Whitlock, who capitalized on a slow start from his opponent by finishing 140 and 100, as well as a key 68 checkout.

Lewis, though, fired his challenge with a 177 as he took the sixth leg, before checking out double ten to continue his revival and double five to level in leg eight as Whitlock was punished for missed doubles.

Lewis then claimed a fourth successive leg as he posted double five to lead 5-4, and though he missed one match dart in the next as Whitlock forced a decider, the Stoke star produced a timely 11-darter to complete a gutsy fight back.

"I'm pleased to get through that because Simon's a top ten player, but I wasn't happy with my own form," admitted Lewis. "I was frustrated with myself but I got away with it in the end.

"My final leg was great - I went out in 11 darts and he'd have had to hit a nine-darter to beat that, so it was pleasing to win like that."

Lewis now takes on World Champion Gary Anderson in Friday's quarter-finals, after the Scot brushed aside New Zealand's Warren Parry 6-0.

Parry initially missed three doubles to claim the opening leg as Anderson stepped in on double five, before the Scot posted a 180 in a 12-darter to move two legs up.

Further maximums helped Anderson into a four-leg lead and he punished missed doubles from Parry to win the fifth on double two, and the Premier League champion then posted his fourth 180 before hitting double ten to seal his place in the last eight.

"I wasn't happy with my performance and I can improve on this, but I got the job done," said Anderson. "He had a few chances but couldn't convert them, and I got through.

"My average was about 95 tonight and I'm still not happy with that - I want to be 100+, but I'm through and that's what matters. He was more or less a home player so the crowd were on his side, and it makes it that wee bit harder."

Reigning Sydney Darts Masters champion Taylor continued his incredible unbeaten record on Australian soil in the PDC World Series of Darts with a 6-2 win over Clinton 'Tic' Bridge in their first round game.

Taylor has won both the 2013 and 2014 Sydney Darts Masters events and also retained his Perth Darts Masters title last weekend, with the victory over Geelong-based brick layer Bridge seeing him move to 17 matches without defeat over five events.

Taylor kicked off the game with a 180 before taking the opening leg in 13 darts on double four, but Bridge leveled by finishing 84 before following up double eight from the Stoke legend with a 60 checkout in the fourth.

Taylor, though, opened the fifth leg with a 180 as he regained the lead on double ten, before taking a game-changing sixth leg with a stunning bulls-eye to finish 85 - after Bridge had missed the single 16 to leave tops when needing 72.

Taylor then took out double 18 to move 5-2 up before sealing victory in style by hitting another 180 and then taking out 127 on the bull.

"I love Australia and I'm enjoying every minute of this trip so far," said Taylor. "It's good to get this game out of the way because he's a good little player and I know he's beaten Barney before.

"He finished well under pressure and when you're level at two-each you don't know what he's going to do. Everything starts to go through your mind so I can relax now that I've got this over with."

Taylor now meets Stephen Bunting on Friday in a repeat of last year's final in Sydney, after the St Helens ace began his bid to go one better this time around with a commanding 6-1 win over David Platt, hitting six doubles from 12 attempts in a clinical win.

Bunting finished 109 and 110 as well as a 14-darter as he won the first four legs without reply, before Platt hit tops to get off the mark.

However, any hopes of a comeback for the DPA Australian Grand Prix number two were quickly ended as Bunting finished 75 for another 14-dart finish before landing double eight to seal the win.

"It's lovely to be back in Sydney," smiled Bunting, who lost in the first round of last week's Perth Darts Masters. "Reaching the final here last year was a big boost for my career and I'm hoping to go one better this week.

"I learned my lesson from last week in Perth when I went 3-1 down to Kyle Anderson and found it difficult to come back. I've changed a bit this week and made sure I started well.

"I've been one of the most consistent players in the World Series this year, and hopefully I can push that up to 100 averages.

"Sometimes it's easy to find the wins but for whatever reason I've struggled to get over the line in the last few tournaments, so hopefully I can build on this win."

Reigning champion Taylor has never been defeated in Australia since the PDC (professional darts corporation) introduced the World Series of Darts in 2013, winning back-to-back titles in Sydney and retaining his Perth Darts Masters crown last weekend.

The 16-time world champion's first round clash at the Qantas Credit Union in Sydney's Darling Harbor will see him come up against Melbourne-based bricklayer Clinton "Tic" Bridge.

The 31-year-old left-hander won through Tuesday's DPA Qualifier - defeating John Weber, a qualifier in 2014, 6-2 in the final - to secure his place in the Sydney Darts Masters for a second time, having caused a sensation by knocking out Raymond van Barneveld 6-5 two years ago.

Van Barneveld will also face a DPA Qualifier in the first round after drawing New Zealand's Cody Harris, who secured his televised debut when he came through Monday's knockouts in Warilla.

Wednesday's final DPA Qualifier Warren Parry - who knocked out Michael van Gerwen in Sydney last year - will face reigning world and Premier League champion Gary Anderson, who has been a semi-final in all three PDC World Series of Darts events so far this year.

World No 1 Van Gerwen has drawn Australian World Cup ace Paul Nicholson, while two-time world champion Adrian Lewis takes on the sport's most successful Australian, Simon Whitlock, in a high-profile contest.

Perth Darts Masters runner-up James Wade plays DPNZ Qualifier Craig Caldwell, while Japan Darts Masters finalist Peter Wright has drawn current DPA Australian Grand Prix No 1 Loz Ryder and Stephen Bunting, last year's runner-up in Sydney, drew David Platt.

Current events proved perplexing for Jason Lieblong, even though he retained his lead at the Rayovac FLW Series Central Division event on Lake Dardanelle. The pro from Conway, Ark., topped the day-one leader board with 19 pounds, 10 ounces, but saw his second day’s productivity slip to 14-7 for a total weight of 34-1 and a 14-ounce lead going into the final round.

“The big fish bit a whole lot better yesterday, but today was nothing by smaller ones,” Lieblong says. “I had maybe nine or 10 keepers all day, but they were all about two pounds.

“Then I caught one that weighed 5-12 in the last hour. Yesterday, I caught another 5 1/2-pounder around 1:30. I guess the bigger fish were just feeding on bait schools that time of day, but you stick with what works.”

Lieblong thinks the decline in fish activity likely was due to increased fishing pressure and waning current. Dardanelle has seen significant water fluctuations this week, with the Army Corps of Engineers working to flush voluminous amounts of recent rainwater through the system.

Lieblong lacked the same level of current, which stimulated his day-one fish.

“The lake level looked the same and I thought the water was moving just the same, but later in the day, it seemed like it wasn’t moving at all,” he notes. “Then again, I just caught that big one in the last hour with hardly any current; so go figure.”

Lieblong ran upriver and fished the midlake area where he focused on cuts in backwater and main lake areas. He targeted the same shallow cover he fished on day one, but with largely different results.

“Yesterday, you’d throw your bait in there and catch one 3 pounds,” Lieblong says. “Today, it was 2 pounds, maybe a pound and a half — and they barely ate it.”

On day one, Lieblong threw a mix of topwaters and flipping baits, but today, the fish’s lethargy prompted him to stick with the latter. His big fish ate a 1/2-ounce black/blue jig with a blue chunk trailer.

Earlier in the day, he stuck with bank fishing, as he did in the first round. However, relentless traffic eventually prompted him to move off the bank and target brush in 8-10 feet of water.

“Everybody was covering the banks; I saw them all day today,” Lieblong recalls. “I said ‘that’s it; I’m going deep.’ I already had a limit so I just decided to sit down and relax.

“Whether it would help me make the cut, I didn’t know. I just knew I’d done all I could do. I said ‘let’s go fish a drop,’ and boom, it happened in about five minutes.”

After long drought, Heidt cranks his way to co-angler lead

Finding anglers in a cranky mood after going almost all day without a keeper is no rarity. In Mark Heidt’s case, getting cranky was less of a reaction and more of a solution.

In short, the Versailles, Ind., co-angler topped his division with a two-day total of 21-11 — a total made possible by a focused period of afternoon cranking.

“I didn’t have a fish until 2 o’clock today,” Heidt says. “I started out shaky heading just trying to get bites. We pulled up on a spot, the fish were schooling and I (got my limit). It took me about 30-45 minutes.”

Fishing within five minutes of the ramp, Heidt was throwing a Lazer squarebill – a balsa crankbait. His day-two limit weighed 7-12.

“The shad would start busting, we’d throw in the middle of it and they would eat it,” he adds.

The weather has been changeable again but settled down for the weekend and it has fished well as a result. The water is reasonable clear in all the ponds and that has certainly helped. The Boathouse pool is still fishing really well with most of the fish coming to either dry flies or lures such as Yellow Dancers and Hothead Damsels. The biggest fish from the pond at 10lb 12oz was caught by C. Walker on a black lure. Other notable catches were the Deed Ferret group with 12 fishes for 46lb with the largest a 9lb 8oz rainbow. The Fishing Inc group took 12 fish for 41lb with the largest at 6lb.

The Burnside pool has been very changeable and the fish have been moving around a lot, one minute they are on the surface taking dries the next they are 10 feet down wanting to chase lures so it has paid to be mobile and change tactics. Floating Fry has been taking a lot of fish as well as Sedges and Shipman’s. Top lures are Damsels, Orange Blobs and Black and Green Fritz. Mr McNeil had the biggest of the week from here with an 8 to 9lb blue trout (returned) taken on a Blob.

On the Bankside most fish are still sat in the first bay down to the dam wall. Again the Floating Fry has been the best fly. Other fry patterns doing well are Pearly Pheasant Tails, Mini Cats and Yellow Dancers. Mr Birse returned 23 in three visits on fry patterns and Mr. Forbes had the biggest fish on the complex this week with a 11lb 12oz rainbow taken on a Yellow Dancer.

There are a lot of fish being caught on the Woodside but it has been very noticeable when the fish are feeding and when they are not. Power bait is still the best bait fished fairly deep down but other baits are working as well. Over the weekend 58 anglers landed 91 fish for 152lb.

Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire

The fishing conditions continue to be pretty good for the time of year with water temperature sitting 12-13C and great water clarity. A lot of fish are showing on the surface but most are taking just under. The fishing was at its best when the breeze was coming out of the west with things a little harder when the wind moved round to the east. At the weekend anglers were seeing loads of fish cruising round, but tempting them out was a bit harder. Big fish are still being seen, and caught, with some cracking tigers still in the area around the burn mouth. Favorite patterns included Sedge, Hopper, Daddy Longlegs, Bibio, Snatcher, Kate McLaren, plus the usual lures and Buzzers. Most of the time the fish are looking to chase and anglers are getting a lot of sport with fish following the fly in and turning away at the last minute. The Fishery is now open from 8am to 9pm every day.

New Zealand ace Parry had lost out in Monday's DPA Qualifier final to Cody Harris, with Weber suffering the same disappointment when he was edged out by Clinton Bridge in Tuesday's decider.

However, it was the three-time Oceanic Masters champion who emerged victorious when the pair did battle for the 16th place in this week's PDC World Series of Darts event at the Qantas Credit Union Arena.

Parry also overcame Kevin Luland, Don Whittington, Barry Jouannet and Rob Szabo for the loss of just two legs in his other knockout matches on Wednesday.

Weber - a qualifier in Sydney a year ago - was also in top form, whitewashing Stefan Cubrilovic and Jonathan Silcock and losing only one leg in his semi-final against Jonathan Silcock before being edged out in the final.

Parry's success means that he is competing in the Sydney Darts Masters for a third successive year, having caused a huge upset by defeating Michael van Gerwen in last year's first round.

Parry will this time be up against World Champion Gary Anderson, who is making his first appearance in the Sydney Darts Masters but has been a semi-finalist in all three PDC World Series of Darts events played so far in 2015.
