Tungsten alloy has a high density, so it has good shielding performance. High-density tungsten-nickel-iron W-Ni-Fe alloy shielding effect of high-energy radiation is 1.5 times that of lead, better than steel and cement, and in achieving the same shielding effect of the required material, its thickness is the smallest, which is important for high-energy radiation shielding structures that require  compact space. In addition, the weight of the tungsten shield is 25 to 50 percent less than that of the lead. And it eliminates the associated toxic hazards and reducing the cost of the mixed waste treatment. The equivalent amount of tungsten alloy shield and lead shield, the former provides a lower risk.
 
In addition to high density, the W-Ni-Fe alloy has good strength and toughness, and it is very suitable for the tungsten nuclear radiation shielding material. The tungsten heavy alloy strengthened by hydrostatic extrusion deformation, hardness distribution and microstructure are more uniform better performance.
