Tungsten dioxide is a kind of tungsten oxide, which is brown, and crystal powder. Its density is 10.9 ~ 11.1g / cm3, and boiling point 1730℃. The properties are Insoluble in water, alkali solution, hydrochloric acid and dilute sulfuric acid, but it can soluble in H2SO4 as a result of a red salt. Tungsten dioxide can be oxidized to tungsten oxide by high nitrate. Meanwhile, it is very popular in producing tungsten and tungsten trioxide in an inertia gas. When at high temperatures, the dioxide can be reduced to the metal tungsten by H2. However, in actual industrial production, the dioxide is not existed for its unstable chemical properties. However, it is a intermediate chemical mainly used for manufacturing tungsten trioxide and tungsten powder. Tungsten dioxide should be stored in a cool, dry place and sealed to ensure that the storage room has good ventilation or exhaust. It is not allowed for tungsten dioxide with large quantity to reach water for it is harmful in soluble with water. Therefore, do not waste it without treating and pour into ground, lake and sea.
