How to Use a Tungsten Alloy Slip Sinker

Fishermen use tungsten alloy slip sinkers to fish on the bottom with live-bait rigs for such fish species as catfish and walleyes. Anglers thread the sinkers onto the fishing line, but the line can slip through the sinker, so when a fish grabs the bait, it does not feel unnatural pressure from the sinker.

1.Slide the sinker onto the end of the fishing line. When selecting a slip sinker, make sure it is heavy enough to hold the rig on the bottom.

2.Tie a barrel swivel onto the end of the fishing line. One of the best knots to use for this purpose is a Palomar knot.
Tie a 24- to 48-inch piece of fishing line to the other end of the barrel swivel.

3.Cast the slip-sinker rig out. Drop it to the bottom, if you are drifting or trolling. as soon as you feel a bite, let line off the spool of your reel so the fish can swim off without feeling additional weight.

4.Count to 10 and turn the reel handle slightly clockwise so line stops coming off the spool. Point the rod tip toward the fish and wait for the line to tighten. When it does, sweep the rod tip to set the hook in the fish's mouth.
