Studies have shown that WS2 solid lubricant is a new type of solid lubricant, whose characteristics are similar to MOS2. Mohs hardness is low. It is easy to form a transfer film. The friction factor is slightly lower than MOS2, and the thermal stability is higher. It begins to decompose in air at 510 °C, completely decomposes at 650 °C, and can keep long-term lubrication at 425 °C. It starts to decompose at 1100 °C in vacuum, and completely decomposes at 2000 °C. In a word, WS2 has better lubrication performance than MOS2. And WS2 is used to replace MOS2 where MOS2 is limited due to its poor oxidation resistance or high resistivity.
