Tungsten alloy, also known as tungsten heavy alloy, is the most important radiation shielding material for storing radioactive resource. Generally, tungsten heavy alloy shield for applications of radioactive resource can be a tungsten heavy alloy protective pot, or a tungsten heavy alloy isotope container, etc. No matter where is stored, what kind of radioactive source is stored, these radiation protection containers must be affixed with "Ionizing Radiation" warning signs.

For a long time, lead shields were used to store and transport radioactive materials, but it pollutes the environment. In order to achieve ideal shielding effect, the volume of the lead shield is larger than that of tungsten alloy shield. This means that in some occasions where requiring both volume and radiation shielding performance, lead shields are not suitable. Tungsten alloy shields for storage of radioactive resource have better performance than lead shields: higher radiation attenuation, harder and more durable with stable dimensions. And it is non-toxic and environmentally friendly, but lead is toxic.
