According to the experts, in pre-molecular imaging, a collimator is used to direct radiation emitted by the subject onto a X ray detector, and to minimize the number of stray photons. Traditionally, tungsten has been used to make pinhole collimators. With the introduction of tungsten 3D production, more complex types of tungsten alloy collimator are now possible. Tungsten alloy’s high density ensures that septal penetration is reduced and as a consequence a higher resolution is achieved than when using a lead collimator. As the images may affect the diagnosis, it is recommended to adopt tungsten alloy collimator, which has better shielding performance and do no harm to people or the environment.
