Tungsten Disulfide Added to Lithium Base Grease

Tungsten disulfide is added to lithium base grease to form a new kind of grease that has good colloid performance and friction performance. It is an ideal lubricating material, which can effectively reduce the friction loss.

The new grease has the following properties:

1. Good colloid performance of the new grease.

Tungsten disulfide can increase the consistency of original lithium base grease as an additive, but has little effect on its dropping point. Therefore, the new grease with tungsten disulfide has the same stable colloidal structure as the lithium base grease.

2. Excellent friction performance of the new grease.

(1)The additive of tungsten disulfide can improve the bearing capacity of the original lithium base grease. The grease with 2% (mass fraction) tungsten disulfide has an improving value of 112.8% in maximum antiseize duty compared with the base grease.

(2)The additive of tungsten disulfide can effectively reduce the friction coefficient of the original lithium base grease, among which the grease with 2% (mass fraction) tungsten disulfide has the lowest average friction coefficient of 0.115 that is 17.3% lower than the base grease.

(3)The lithium base grease with 2% (mass fraction) tungsten disulfide has the best abrasion resistance.

(4)There is some obvious wear and tear during the usage of the original lithium grease while the friction surface treated by the lithium grease with 2% (mass fraction) tungsten disulfide is relatively smooth. Tungsten disulfide can enter the pits on the worn surface and fill them, which accounts for the above phenomenon.

The new grease formed by the lithium base grease and tungsten disulfide can effectively reduce the wear in the process of mechanical lubrication with its stable colloidal structure and excellent friction performance.
