I. Analysis of China’s Molybdenum Price Trends in July 2025
According to CTIA GROUP LTD, the price trend of molybdenum products in China in July 2025 was characterized by an initial rise, followed by stabilization, and then another rise, with a total of approximately 13,000 tons of ferromolybdenum tendered during the same period.
In July, the price of molybdenum concentrate increased by approximately 15.16%, ferromolybdenum by approximately 16.67%, molybdenum oxide by approximately 14.40%, sodium molybdate by approximately 19.53%, ammonium tetramolybdate by approximately 14.66%, ammonium heptamolybdate by approximately 13.92%, molybdenum powder by approximately 15.12%, and molybdenum bars by approximately 13.48%.
At the beginning of the month, influenced by the rapid decline in raw material prices at the end of June, tightening raw material spot supply, a relatively stable international molybdenum market, strong downstream inquiry activity, rising steel tender prices, increased key mineral reserves by various countries, and high expectations for the future among industry players, molybdenum concentrate prices rose with fluctuations, and the pace of the increase accelerated later. Against this backdrop, intermediate smelting enterprises and molybdenum chemical companies also adjusted their quotes upward.
Mid-month, the market entered an adjustment phase following the rapid price rise, compounded by declining steel tender prices and low acceptance of high-priced goods by downstream users, leading many suppliers to rationally lower their quotes and intensifying a wait-and-see atmosphere.
By the end of the month, most product prices hit new annual highs with significant increases, primarily due to a notable rise in molybdenum concentrate prices by major mining companies and market concerns over molybdenum supply stability following a sudden accident at a copper-molybdenum mine in Inner Mongolia. On July 29, a company in Jiangxi offered 45%-50% molybdenum concentrate at 4,250 yuan per ton-unit, while a mine in Henan sold molybdenum concentrate with a grade of 50% or higher at prices ranging from 4,300 yuan per ton-unit to 4,365 yuan per ton-unit. However, amid the sharp rise in molybdenum prices, downstream users exhibited significant reluctance toward high prices, with Taigang Group, CITIC Tai Fu Special Steel, and Qingtong Group (Aoying) jointly issuing a statement announcing a suspension of ferromolybdenum procurement.
