Tungsten Trioxide/Iron Composite Photocatalyst

Photocatalytic oxidation of tungsten trioxide / iron composite photocatalyst is undoubtedly one of the most promising technologies in the world today. It shows the application of solar energy in many aspects, such as photolysis of water, access to hydrogen energy, and treatment of polluted wastewater.

In recent years, in recent years, nano tungsten trioxide has developed rapidly due to its smaller band gap. However, the photocatalytic activity of pure WO₃ is very low, and the O₂ can not be reduced by a single electron method. With the understanding of the composite system of two kinds of semiconductors with different band width, the composite photocatalyst based on tungsten oxide is continuously developed.

The preparation of tungsten trioxide/iron composite photocatalyst is as follows:

The 0.450g WO₃ sample was called and added to the beaker with 500mL distilled water in the drastic agitation. Then the 11.7wt%Fe₂O₃/WO₃ (the mass percentage of Fe₂O₃ in Fe₂O₃ /WO₃) was added to the 11.7wt%Fe₂O₃/WO₃ (the mass percentage of Fe₂O₃in Fe₂O₃/WO₃), place the beaker in a magnetic stirrer set at 50 degrees, heating and stirring 2h. The product was centrifuged and washed for several times. The product was put in the oven at 80 degrees centigrade and dried all night. After the time, the samples were put into the muffle furnace (the temperature is 400 ℃) for 4h, and the final product of the composite photocatalyst was made.

The results showed that the degradation rate of methyl orange was over 70% after visible light irradiation of 1h. At the same time, the photocatalyst is stable and reusable, and the preparation method is simple.
