Tungsten Oxide Photocatalytic Degrades Organics

Photocatalysis technology is a kind of chemical treatment method using light-driven organic pollutants to make it redox reaction. An important aspect of studying tungsten oxide photocatalysis is the study of functional materials that can be used as photocatalysts. Tungsten oxide is an important transition metal oxide, and its properties will vary depending on the type of crystal and the water it contains.

Photocatalytic degradation of organics by tungsten oxide was as follows: 100 mL of Rhodamine B solution at 10 mg · L -1 or 50 mg of methyl orange aqueous solution at the same concentration was added to the quartz cup. Put it in the dark ultrasound 10min, while stirring 40min to achieve the purpose of adsorption equilibrium. At this point, 4 mL of the suspension is removed and centrifuged to obtain a supernatant. This solution is marked as initial concentration C0, where the original solution that has not been photo catalytically adsorbed by tungsten oxide is labeled C00.

The reaction system was placed under a 300W xenon lamp, depending on the absorption of synthetic materials, choose whether to add filters in front of the lamp. At the same time the suspension in the light conditions, the need for a certain speed of agitation in order to make the entire system of organics and catalyst mass transfer occurs between the rapid. After a certain period of time, 4 mL of the suspension was removed from the system and centrifuged to obtain supernatant at different time periods. Since the concentration of organics is directly proportional to the absorbance of the maximum absorption peak of the organic substance, the concentration of the organic substance is expressed in terms of the measured absorbance.

In the photocatalytic degradation of organics in tungsten oxide, methanol or sodium oxalate may be added to the system as a sacrificial agent for photogenerated holes. After the introduction of nitrogen or add p-benzoquinone as superoxide radicals capture agent. Addition of isopropanol or dimethylsulfoxide as a hydroxyl radical scavenger at the same time will make it possible to clarify which factors in the photocatalytic degradation of organics by tungsten oxide play a role.
