Tungsten carbide or cemented carbide has many superb characteristics such as high hardness, good strength, good wear and corrosion resistance and salient stability under higher temperatures even at 500°C. It remains unchanged and even at 1000°C attains high hardness. Cemented tungsten carbide as a sintered metallurgical product is in powder form and is manufactured in vacuum or Hydrogen reduction furnace with refractory tungsten material (WC) micron powder as the main ingredient and Cobalt (Co), Nickel (Ni) or Molybdenum (Mo) as the binder. Tungsten carbide rods have the same properties as with any cemented tungsten carbide product.   
 
Manufacturers of tungsten carbide rods usually supply this product with one or two straight holes with a length consisting of 330mm. There are different types of cemented tungsten carbide products of different forms such as solid carbide rod, strip, mill and drill, cutter/tip nozzle, dies and complex parts etc. There are usually three types of cemented tungsten carbide rods such as PCB rod, blank rod and rod.   These products with holes are suitable for manufacturing of various kinds of solid cemented carbide tools for the machining of heat-resistant alloys and Ti alloy and suitable for the manufacturing of micro drills used for machining PCB. The holes also play a part in cooling process of machining.

Tungsten carbide as a material compound is in huge demand for its very high strength as well as rigidity. Its comprehensive strength is higher than all existing melted and cast or forged metals and alloys. Its compositions range from two to three times as rigid as steel and four to six times as rigid as cast iron and brass. Young's Modulus is up to 94,8000,000 psi. Tungsten base carbides work well up to about 1000 ℉in oxidizing atmospheres and up to 1500℉ in non-oxidizing atmospheres.  If you use light bait such as a worm or an insect, you will find that your hook will float at the top of the water and it is difficult to attract any fish. A popular method of getting your hook to submerge further in the water is to use fishing sinkers. These small metal balls are easily placed on the line and increase your chances of catching a fish. So it is critical to place a suitable fishing sinker onto your fishing rigs, it is so easy that you can do it yourself if you have the necessary things, such as fishing line, scissors and sinkers and sometimes you need a snap swivel.

First remove your hook from the fishing line. You will not be able to place your fishing sinkers without a free end of fishing line to utilize. Use a pair of scissors to trim the hook off your line.

Run a line through one of your fishing sinkers. Most style of sinkers have a hole running through the middle of them. This is for securing it to the line. Thread the fishing line through the hole until several inches worth of line are fed out the opposite end of the sinker.

Tungsten has about the same electrical conductivity and resistivity, coefficient of thermal expansion, and about the same resistance to corrosion by mineral acids as molybdenum.  Tungsten is high strength at temperatures above 2,000°F, but because the melting point is higher, it retains significant strength at higher temperatures. The elastic modulus for tungsten is about 25% higher than that of molybdenum, and its density is almost twice that of molybdenum. All commercial unalloyed tungsten is produced by powder-metallurgy methods; it is available as rod, wire, plate, sheet, and some forged shapes. For some special applications, vacuum-arc-melted tungsten can be produced, but it is expensive and limited to relatively small sections.

Several tungsten alloys are produced by liquid-phase sintering of compacts of tungsten powder with binders of nickel-copper, iron-nickel, iron-copper, or nickel-cobalt-molybdenum combinations; tungsten usually comprises 85 to 95% of the alloy by weight. These alloys are often identified as heavy metals or machinable tungsten alloys. In compact forms, the alloys can be machined by turning, drilling, boring, milling, and shaping; they are not available in mill product forms because they are unable to be wrought at any temperature.
 
Typical Applications include weights and counterbalances for aircraft control surfaces and rotor blades, guidance platforms, counterbalances for fly wheels, turbines and engine crankshafts, vibration damping governors, filaments, and fuse masses. Other applications include radiation shielding, gyro rotors, weapons including armor piercing applications, and high temperature tooling.

Tungsten bar with impurities is used to procedure bulb filaments or electron tube filaments, which are guaranteed to have remarkable resistance to high temperature. Tungsten metal is lustrous and silvery white in colour, and does not occur naturally (it has an abundance of 1 ppm in the earth's crust). It is found in the ore Wolframite, a tungstate of iron and manganese, (FeMn)WO4, which is converted to the trioxide and then reduced to the metal by reduction in hydrogen (carbon cannot be used as the very stable carbide would result). Tungsten metal is relatively inert, resisting attack by oxygen, acids and alkalis, although it will react with fused, oxidising alkali media. It has the highest melting point of all metals and, when pure, it can be worked with relative ease; however, the presence of impurities renders tungsten extremely brittle and, therefore, difficult to fabricate.

The high melting point of tungsten makes it suitable for use as electric filaments (e.g. in electric light bulbs). It is also the basis of a range of alloys containing tungsten, copper and nickel which are used for radiation shielding as they provide a 50% increase in density compared to lead. Tungsten and its alloys also find uses in military applications (e.g. armour and shells), as well as counter-balance materials. Tungsten carbide powder (with possible additions of titanium and tantalum carbides) along with nickel or cobalt powders, are compressed and sintered to produce cemented carbides. These products are used in place of high speed steel to form the tip of cutting and drilling tools, or for parts which will be subjected to heavy useage.
